About Us

Founded in 2004, Global Generation is an educational charity, which works together with local children and young people,  businesses, residents and families in Camden, Islington and Southwark to create healthy, integrated and environmentally responsible communities.

We aim to create a welcoming, caring and learning culture in which we recognise and promote the diversity of people and nature, breaking down barriers to engagement to help build resilient communities and environments, working together towards a more inclusive, equitable and just world.

Our work connects people of all ages to nature in the middle of the city. We focus on the development of the whole person, providing support for children and young people to grow themselves, grow relationships and grow a new vision for the future. Our gardens provoke curiosity. They are sustainable and creative, giving individuals the opportunity to step beyond the familiar ‘business as usual’ world, encouraging them to join together with others to grow a new story in which the seemingly impossible is continuously in a process of becoming possible.

Job Context and Purpose

This commercial aspect of our work is important, bringing unrestricted income to the organisation, but also helping us build relationships with the business community, opening up further opportunities for collaborative work and the chance for young people and the local community to get involved, learn new skills and potentially find paid work.

We are looking for an experienced and competent maintenance gardener with a passion for gardening with nature, who will oversee our growing portfolio of commercial gardens. This includes maintaining ornamental planters outside cafes and restaurants as well as other planting in the public realm.

We are currently setting up an entry level horticulture course for young people and local residents, and the role will include using your experience and practical knowledge of amenity horticulture to work with and mentor trainees on work experience as they carry out the maintenance rounds with you.

Working with our wider team and trainees, you will also be responsible for scoping out, designing and implementing new projects.
