Job Description:

A great opportunity to use your skills and experience in gardening, landscaping and growing to help increase Cultivate London’s offer to both commercial and community clients. You will oversee efficient operation of CL’s garden maintenance and landscaping services on a commercial and community level as well as expand the service by seeking out new business and opportunities.  This role is for a motivated, energetic person focused on achieving set targets with the ability to think creatively and inspire others.

Contract Deliverables

The main roles of the job:

1.       Carry out maintenance tasks and upkeep of a wide range of green areas and growing spaces, including the use of powered, non-powered tools & equipment, the application of pesticides / herbicides in line with good operational practice

2.       Liaise with clients and provide excellent customer service

3.       Produce competitive estimates and quotations for landscape and garden maintenance work

4.       Look for all opportunities to expand the client portfolio and up-sell within existing contracts

5.       Maintain accurate records

6.       Set an excellent example, supervise and deliver on-the-job coaching for Apprentice gardeners and work experience trainees to develop their horticultural skills and knowledge

7.       Review and provide feedback on the performance of jr staff and work experience trainees

8.       Attend team and supervision meetings as requested

9.       Ensure that all vehicles, machinery, tools and equipment are kept clean, safe, safe, secure and in a serviceable condition at all times

10.   Provide tool box talks to the relevant personnel

11.   Be responsible for the maintenance of personal health and safety and development of best practice, as well as that of our clients and fellow staff, as required by law

12.   Work as part of the CL team and carry out cover for other staff as and when required

13.   Undertake any other duties and training that may reasonably be required by Cultivate London

As this post involved working with children, young people and vulnerable adults appointment will be subject to an Enhanced Disclosures and Barring Service check

Personal Specification

Essential

1.       A passion for gardening and plants, and strong knowledge of both

2.       Proven experience of landscaping and horticultural work with a sound knowledge of horticultural procedures and processes

3.       The ability to carry out a full range of horticultural operations to a high standard across various sites

4.       A horticultural qualification at Level 3 or above and or significant gardening experience

5.       CSCS (supervisor level) & SSSTs qualified

6.       An ability to produce, read and accurately interpret planting plans and garden design instructions

7.       Demonstrable knowledge of workplace health, safety and welfare practice and requirements

8.       Full clean UK driving licence

9.       Ability to work effectively as part of the CL team and on your own

10.   Supervisory and management skills and experience with an ability to supervise and coach inexperienced team member

11.   Willingness to work outside of normal working hours including weekends, as agreed in advance with CL

12.   The ability to produce and maintain accurate & legible records as required

13.   Competent in the production and use of spreadsheets and word documents

14.   Trustworthy, dependable, motivated, a good time keeper and communicator

In liaison with the Director and Curriculum Leader, the successful candidate will be responsible for reviewing, recruiting, managing and training the Practical Instructor team who assist with delivery and support for Horticulture and Landscaping courses across all college sites They will ensure development and parity of practical instruction across sites, ensure health and safety for participants and oversee the resource budget for Horticulture & Garden Design.  They will ensure that all practical classes and assessments run smoothly with well-planned co-ordination between delivery staff, assessors, verifiers and students. The Team Leader will play an important part in continual improvement for all the services delivered by this team.

The ideal candidate will have some management experience, have worked in a teaching or instructing role in Horticulture/Landscaping.  They will hold a relevant Horticulture qualification at or above Level 3 and be familiar with delivery of the Horticulture/Landscaping curriculum.  They will monitor and develop practical aspects of training and assessment and support staff teams in delivery as well as external competitions as required.

The Team Leader will play an integral part in the planning and resourcing for horticulture and garden design delivery at all centres.

Our client based in Central London are seeking an Assistant Gardener to manage and inspire their horticultural team to ensure the delivery of experiences that are representative of Covent Garden as a world class destination. To help curate and support the design objectives and vision for Covent Garden. Deliver seasonal changeovers, one-off installations and ongoing maintenance of all planting across the estate.

You would be required to ensure that your contractual obligations are fulfilled to an exceptional standard and in accordance with statutory compliance. Work alongside the client, colleagues and supply partners to build relationships and develop a one team approach. 

Key Duties & Responsibilities

-Act as an ambassador of Covent Garden and seek out opportunities to provide visitors and occupiers with friendly conversation and background information of the plants used and upcoming installations.

-Provide line management for the Horticultural team, coordinate their daily duties and manage holiday cover/sick leave.

-Coordinate deliveries, the use of consumables and the provision and maintenance of all hand tools, equipment and machinery.

-Track expenditure and report to the finance department monthly.

-Manage the apprenticeship scheme and employment of apprentices, provide supervision where required.

-Maintain a high level of H&S awareness, ensuring compliance with statutory regulations at all times.

-Design and present seasonal installations for approval by the client.

-Attend seminars and exhibitions with a view to promoting Covent Garden, sharing best practice and developing innovation.

-Update social media feeds with regular good news stories and photographs.

-Manage the maintenance, repair and replacement of all pots, hanging baskets, and box planters.

-Maintain all plants, trees, shrubs, climbers, perennials and annuals.

The Candidate:

This is an active and visible role requiring excellent customer relationships with senior client property team members, sound commercial and supplier management skills as well as keen business ability.

Experienced Gardener

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an experienced skilled gardener to manage a beautiful private garden in Hampstead, Greater London. The diverse 1-acre garden consists of a rose garden and climbing roses, wisteria, yew hedges, mixed beds, herbaceous borders and shrubs, mature trees, a kitchen garden with raised beds and a greenhouse, lawn, tennis courts, pond with a water feature and a pergola / trellis walkway.

Our client has an established interior and exterior landscape business carrying out the design, installation, and maintenance of interior and outdoor plant displays to customers which include: - offices, restaurants, hotels, blue chip businesses etc.

Job Description:

Due to continued expansion, they currently have a vacancy for a full time Interior Maintenance Technician, ideally living in West London commutable distance from Central London. Your principle responsibility will be to visit multiple clients over 5 days per week checking the installation of existing plant displays, as well as installing new displays. Occasional travel maybe required to Head Office in Bristol –Duties will include –

-Watering

-Dusting

-Cleaning

-Pest control

-Trimming

-Tidying/replacing surface dressing as required

-Ordering materials/plants

You will also be expected to ensure that clients are happy with the service provided, and deal with any ad hoc requests. 

Key Skills:

Our client is looking for keen and enthusiastic candidates who have a passion for plants and good horticultural knowledge, with a proven experience in interior landscaping. It is essential that he/she has excellent customer service/field service skills combined with good communication skills and a willingness to be flexible regarding duties.

You will generally be working on your own and it is important that you are highly self-motivated with the ability to work with minimum supervision. A van will be provided together with appropriate clothing and a full range of equipment. Candidates should hold a full driving licence and be confident about driving.
