Sole Gardener - Live Out - EC3369

A wonderful opportunity has arisen for an experienced Sole Gardener with good time management skills and excellent attention to detail. The successful candidate is required to take ownership of a two acre private garden as well as the garden maintenance of additional properties within the wider estate, located on the Shropshire/Staffordshire border.

This position would suit a knowledgeable gardener with sole private estate gardening experience.

Approximately two days of the five-day week will be spent at the main house, where a two acre garden comprises of mixed and herbaceous borders, shrubs, climbers, large hedges, box hedging, roses, and mature trees.  Expansive areas of striped lawn give the property a relaxed yet formal feel, though the attention to detail required to maintain an immaculate appearance is exemplified by these visually exposed areas.

Maintenance of the smaller property gardens, courtyards and communal village areas within the wider estate will consist primarily of grass and hedge cutting. The Sole Gardener will be able to complete the week’s tasks comfortably if effective time management is applied, however a full- time estate team manage these properties, so assistance will be provided to the Sole Gardener if and when required.  Specialist work within the estate, such as tree surgery operations, is always undertaken by external contractors.

Applicants must have experience with a range of garden machinery including ride-on mowers, strimmers, knapsack sprayers and hedge cutters. A full driving licence is essential as the position will require driving from site to site throughout the working week.

The ideal candidate will hold an academic horticultural qualification and spray tickets (PA1/PA6), good plant identification skills and horticultural knowledge, experience of managing large lawns, with knowledge of pruning techniques and seasonal garden management. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced, self-motivated and physically fit Sole Gardener to demonstrate their abilities on a large estate, in a beautiful part of the country.
