Our client has an exciting position for a full time Vertical Farming Technician to join their friendly team, based in Worcestershire. While small, residential vertical gardening has been around for decades, it is in the past few years that advances in lighting and reduced energy costs have had a transformative effect, unleashing vertical farming’s potential. Our client uses proven agritech in an innovative and unique way, growing crops in environments where they will consistently thrive and produce significantly higher yields while using fewer natural resources.

The successful candidate will assist in all day-to-day activities within an in-house testing and development vertical farming system, working with a growing team to test, validate, and develop plant recipes and internal processes for use in commercial vertical farming systems.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

-Operate the pilot scale vertical farming system with all associated physical and clerical activities to ensure the highest levels of performance.

-Support the testing and development of different crop varieties both in house and externally.

-Ensure adherence to the Food Safety and Health & Safety standards of the organisation

-Potting, sowing, harvesting, and packing of fresh produce

-Continuous monitoring, pest management and accurate record keeping

-Mixing irrigation solutions and monitoring growing all parameters

-Maintain the health of our plants and the wider facilities through regular cleaning & sterilising

-Working at height

-Working in small spaces and with restricted access within a crop

-General maintenance of all equipment

-Following all standard operating procedures

-After the produce is ready you may be involved in the delivery to local customers

-Involvement with the testing of different crop varieties both internally and externally

-Work to a pre agreed testing schedule to allow us to identify key variables affecting growth and areas for improvement. 

Desirable skills and experience:

-Ability to concentrate and perform tasks accurately to a high standard

-Good understanding of crop husbandry and hydroponic growing methodologies

-Ability to follow instructions and work hard

-Computer literate and able to work with Microsoft suite programs and data analysis software

Sole Gardener

Applications are invited for the position of Sole Gardener for a large country house in the West Midlands close to Solihull. The property has 4 acres of formal gardens plus a further 4acres of fields which are looked after by a farmer.

The landscaped garden which is well established and maintained to a high standard has extensive areas of lawn, as well as herbaceous borders, terraces, with a new kitchen garden under construction, to be planted with vegetables and herbs, there are also plans for a knot and rose garden. Currently there are a large number of ornamental and mature trees. The position offers a great opportunity to work closely with the owners, using your horticultural knowledge to its full potential in developing new planted areas throughout the garden, including the formation of a new large bed alongside the impressive entrance driveway. The position at present is a sole role but the intention is for a junior gardener to be employed in the coming year as the garden develops and the work increases.

Applicants must have excellent craft gardening skills combined with good horticultural knowledge and a keen eye for detail. Your regular duties will include lawn mowing, strimming, weeding, pruning, hedge cutting, planting, etc. As well as general garden maintenance you will also be expected to carry out handyperson duties, You should be familiar with the safe use and general maintenance of normal garden machinery and tools including mowers, hedge cutters and other hand held machinery. The appointed person will also be a responsible key holder, and should be capable of overseeing outside contractors as required from time to time.

There is still plenty of scope to develop the garden further, and the position offers a great opportunity to make full use of your gardening and horticultural skills.

THE ROLE            

We are looking for an experienced, nursery based, sales person with a horticultural background, to join our existing team.  Dealing with client both face to face and over the phone.  You would need to be able to see the whole job through from taking the order, order processing, organising transport to the clients satisfaction.  This is a non-commission based role.

ABOUT YOU       

It is a busy office so you need to be able to adapt quickly to a fast changing environment and be able to work under pressure.  You would need to be prepared to help others in your team if the need arises to ensure the smooth running of the whole office.  You need to be reliable, trustworthy and be prepared to become part of the Readyhedge Team. You may also be required to help in other areas, such as discuss production figures,  get involved in buying plants from abroad, helping with websites and social media, as your role progresses.

Black Birches Rose Nursery is looking to recruit an experienced Plant & Nursery Supervisor to lead our team in looking after and tending our stock of over 600 varieties of roses.

The successful applicant will be experienced in the care and nurture of roses and will be responsible, along with our existing team of experienced and enthusiastic Nursery staff for the condition and care of our 30,000+ rose plants.

This a full time position Monday-Friday 8am -5pm.

You will be required to work and liaise with our online dispatch department (www.countrygardenroses.co.uk) and be responsible for producing first class rose plants throughout the year.

Responsibilities will also include organisation of our winter potting up process, general condition of our display beds and dealing with the staggered pruning required to produce a constant supply of roses for sale.

You will have at least 10 years’ experience within the horticultural industry and be used to overseeing and controlling the operations of a working team.

PA1 and PA6 spraying certificates would be of benefit, along with a good knowledge of relevant health & safety procedures.
