Experienced Gardener

A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen within a beautiful private estate in Warwickshire for an experienced gardener in search of a rewarding role within a small team.  This role would suit a skilled and practical gardener with 3-5 years’ experience and a genuine love for their profession. Working alongside one other gardener, the successful candidate will be responsible for the maintenance of the gardens and grounds. The formal gardens cover an area of approximately 3 acres set within a wider 40-acre estate.

The owners are keen to continue developing the gardens and intend to increase the formal gardens by an additional acre. Applications would be particularly welcome from candidates with experience in developing gardens and confident producing planting schemes to suit the various planting conditions throughout the gardens. Previous experience working alongside and managing contractors would also be desirable for this role.

Garden features include a kitchen garden, knot garden, Italian garden, Laburnum arch, orchard, mixed perennial planting, alpine beds, rose garden and formal lawns. Extending from the formal areas there are expansive lawns, a large lake with associated planting and large mature woodland. Approaching the front of the main property along the front drive visitors are met by formal lawns, large specimen trees and circular beds planted with fastigiate yews, underplanted with roses.

The successful candidate would be required to provide cut flowers and houseplants for the main house, manage the glasshouse to produce young plants for the kitchen garden, seasonal bedding displays and propagation of perennial plants from the garden itself. There are opportunities to improve areas within the garden but also plans to redevelop large areas to create more formal elements within the estate.

The position would suit a knowledgeable gardener with private estate gardening experience and a strong working knowledge of a wide range of garden machinery. The ideal candidate will hold a recognised horticultural qualification, spraying certificate (PA1/PA6) and preferably chainsaw qualifications.
