Our client is a high end, well established family run company which carries out a range of gardening services, including grounds and garden maintenance, as well as landscape design and build for both corporate and private clients. They take great care in making sure that their team is structured in such a way as to provide the necessary support and practical knowledge to ensure that their level of customer service and quality of work is not compromised.

The Role

They currently have a vacancy for a Grounds Maintenance Team Leader. The successful candidate will be in charge of a small team of gardeners responsible for the maintenance of approximately 15 high end gardens for corporate and business clients. You and your team will normally visit 3 sites per day carrying out general garden maintenance duties which will include – mowing, strimming, pruning, weeding, bed preparation and maintenance, replanting as required, leaf clearance, mulching plus general site tidiness. You will be provided with a company van and full range of tools and equipment to carry out your work.

The Applicant

He/she must have previous experience of working within a similar role and have good practical skills in the full range of garden maintenance duties. This should be combined with reasonable plant knowledge, and good man management and communication skills able to organise and delegate the daily work duties efficiently within your team, as well as liaising with clients as required. You should be hard working, with a good eye for detail and be familiar with the safe operation and routine maintenance of most types of garden machinery.

You should have a current full driving licence. The normal working week will be 44hrs plus overtime, holiday entitlement will be 20 days plus 8 days bank holidays.

Head Gardener

The owner of this high end, well established company (third generation), aim is for his clients to be surrounded by plants and beautifully created gardens, throughout the seasons. Significant horticultural skills and experience working on private estates are the main criteria for the role of Head Gardener. The current team are dedicated and reliable horticultural trained specialists with a wealth of professionalism and knowledge and are fully in tune with new trends and trade products, delivering the absolute best level of gardening. The private estates are located across Buckinghamshire, London and the home counties regions.

The Gardens

The Head Gardener will be responsible for their team, working on the 3/4-acre estates that comprise of; arboretums, ponds, manicured lawns (tasks included scarification, aeration), large herbaceous boarders, formal gardens that have, roses, box hedging and topiary. As well as the grounds, the driveways, paths, sitting areas need to be presented to a high standard, clear of debris and clean. Planting will involve creating amazing seasonal flowering borders and/or planters.

The Applicant

Together with excellent plant knowledge and horticultural skills applicants must have the knowledge to ensure garden equipment and machinery are maintained and kept in good working order.

During the working week of 44 hours (additional hours will be paid as overtime) you will visit up to 5 estate gardens managing two Assistant Gardeners, you will need to complete client/job reports to ensure materials etc. are ordered. A company van will be provided, a driving licence and PA1 & PA6 certificates are essential for the Head Gardener role. This is a full time employed position with a company pension and holiday entitlement of 20 days + 8 days bank holidays.

Our client is a leading Grounds Maintenance Company, which carries out work for commercial clients throughout the UK. They currently require a Contracts Manager to take responsibility of their grounds maintenance operation within the southwest London region.

Job Description:

You will be expected to generally operate from home, managing the day-to-day running of the service function within your district, supervising the work of 10 mobile maintenance teams carrying out regular grounds maintenance on commercial sites throughout their region. Each team is equipped with their own van and equipment. The prime role is to ensure that service delivery to the client is to the highest standards and to ensure that financial targets are achieved through the proactive and safe management of staff and resources.

Your duties will include: -
  • Regular site visits and meetings
  • Control, motivate, and discipline members of your team.
  • Recruitment, training and development of team members.
  • Ensuring work is completed to required KPI’s and quality standards.
  • Full budgetary accountability for wages, consumables, hand tools and work wear etc.
  • Planning work schedules.
  • Responsible for the maintenance and safe use of company vehicles, equipment etc.
  • Health and safety issues in line with Company H&S manual.
  • Working with customer service department.
  • Assessment of new sites.
Must haves:
