The formal gardens contain mixed hedges, many varieties of roses, herbaceous borders and extensive lawns with climbing roses on the garden walls and house.  The garden has many different ‘rooms’ within it.  The less formal garden is being developed to encourage wildlife, as are the woodland areas.  These areas require attention to detail and the application of appropriate horticultural practices.  There are many mature trees including an impressive lime avenue.  Amenities include an En Tout Cas tennis court and a saltwater swimming pool (which needs treating once a week – instruction will be given).  The paddocks are managed by a local farmer.

The new Head Gardener will be responsible for managing one other full-time gardener and one occasional pair of helping hands as well as various contractors on site as necessary.  Applicants should have experience in a similar hands-on garden management role within a private home, a recognised academic horticultural qualifications and a willingness to undertake planned and unforeseen estate management tasks as they arise.  A certification for spraying, rabbit/and mole management would be beneficial, but is not essential.  Applicants must hold chainsaw certification (CS30/31) with experience in ground-based tree work.  Knowledge of basic garden machinery maintenance would be beneficial.

The client is looking for a positive, enthusiastic and helpful character to join an existing team, each of whom contribute to the smooth running of the family home. You must be physically fit, a non-smoker but most of all have a friendly and amenable disposition and a genuine passion for your work.  A full driving licence and your own transport are required due to the rural location of the property.
