A dynamic and innovative Garden Maintenance and Landscaping Team Leader is required for a prestigious business in Norfolk.

The company, based in West Norfolk, provides high standards of Farm and Real Estate services that includes the grounds maintenance work and Landscaping for desirable residential properties local to their office and across North Norfolk and Cambridge.

The Team Leader will be joining and leading a dedicated team of 2 full time Landscape and Maintenance operatives, covering all grounds and garden maintenance tasks using modern vehicles and up to date machinery and equipment. The ideal candidate will have drive and passion to motivate those under their management by way of effective communication and demonstrating best practices. He / She will ensure the team continue to work in a safe and secure environment, by maintaining compliance with health and safety obligations at all times. 

The Team Leader will be responsible for the programme management and planning and prioritising of the work schedule for the team. Therefore, experience with computers and the use of calendars and scheduling software is essential. He / She and will have a clear understanding of seasonal requirements and would be able to pre-empt and identify potential challenges and arrange viable solutions. There is a potential requirement for a further resource in North Norfolk, either an additional operative or outsourcing, for which the successful candidate will be the responsible.

Applicants must have demonstratable experience of managing garden staff, be competent with a full range of machinery. He / She should have an academic horticultural qualification, horticultural training along with good plant knowledge. A full clean driving licence and chainsaw certificate are essential. Also, the ability to tow trailers, and grounds maintenance related training certificates such as PA1 & PA6 would prove advantageous.

As this job role involves outdoor work in all weather conditions, the successful candidate should be physically fit and capable of leading his/her team by example, completing tasks on time and motivating and training individuals as and when required. A reliable, and well-presented person along with good communication skills is expected.

There is currently a part time Head Gardener at the Hall responsible for the 5-acre garden containing ½ an acre walled garden and two greenhouses and propagation work. The successful candidate will work closely with the Head Gardener to provide additional support for the garden work.

The property is positioned in a stunning 10-acre well-manicured garden, on a large in hand farming estate surrounded by expansive views of fields and native woodlands. Structurally re-designed in 2011, the formal garden consists of ornamental parterres, lawns with shrub beds and borders, azaleas and rhododendron borders, an ornamental lake and fountain.  There is also a walled garden with herbaceous borders, a large Alitex greenhouse and mature trees. Areas of hard landscaping have been established to make the management of the grounds as easy as possible.  

The ideal candidate will have clear enthusiasm for maintaining and enhancing the garden and is someone who takes pride in their work. He / She will be responsible for the onward development of the borders in conjunction with the owners and maintain the garden to a high standard. He / She should be organised, able to plan and prioritise work load and is prepared to work outside in all weathers.  Time keeping is essential for this role to ensure the harmonious and smooth running of the estate.

The successful candidate will have excellent knowledge of trees, shrubs and herbaceous plants and be fully conversant with planting methods, soil properties, pest control, pruning and cultivation. Trees are a major part of the landscape; therefore, a chainsaw certificate is essential. However, as long as the applicant is willing to acquire the certification, training can be arranged by the employer. A spraying certificate (PA1 and PA6) is required and a full clean driving licence is essential for the role as some driving duties will be expected.

Additional duties will include basic maintenance such as painting and repairs therefore previous experience would be ideal. He / She should be trustworthy and when the owners are travelling, will collaborate with the house sitter for the security of the property. He / She must be dog friendly and would be willing to walk the owner’s two Labrador dogs.

Accommodation is offered as part of the package by way of a three-bedroom cottage at £5.00 per week rent. The occupant would be responsible for their own bills including council tax, in line with other employees working on the estate. Partners, children and pets are welcome.

The Estate is located on the Moray Coast, a commutable distance from Inverness and is set in 22 acres of stunning and established parkland and woodland with a lake and walled garden. The 1.5 acres of walled garden contains an orchard, glasshouse and 2 large polytunnels, ornamental parterres with grasses and a herb garden, large herbaceous borders with lupins and ornamental poppies, cut flowers, raised beds, lawn and kitchen garden. The herb and kitchen garden supply the café and renowned fine dining restaurant with fruit, vegetables and herbs throughout the year.

Our client is looking for a skilled gardener to develop and maintain the gardens to a high horticultural standard and with minimal supervision. A key responsibility will be growing fresh produce in the kitchen garden and glasshouse/polytunnels. Therefore, a working knowledge of plant propagation is required as the successful candidate will assist in the growing of thousands of seedlings for micro herbs and veg production.  He / She will also be responsible for the year-round garden maintenance, lawncare and management, development and care of the herbaceous and shrub borders, the cut flowerbeds and fruit trees.

The ideal candidate will hold an academic horticultural qualification (preferably at Level 3) and have experience working on private estates. They will have excellent horticultural knowledge and are confident in plant identification, plant husbandry and specialist knowledge such as pest and disease control. Previous experience in borders and garden design implementation would be an advantage and he / she will have experience in the use and maintenance of garden machinery. PA1/PA6 and chainsaw licence are desirable but not essential.

The role reports to the owners and will work alongside other members of both part time gardening staff and chefs, therefore, good communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team is important. He / She will have a flexible approach to work and be willing to help out on the wider estate where necessary. Given the rural location of the estate, a driving licence and vehicle are essential. The successful candidate should be prepared to work outside in all weathers, be physically fit and have a vision for maintaining and enhancing the garden as required. Working hours are weekdays 8.30 am to 5.00 pm.
