Gardener - Live Out - EC3227

A rare opportunity has arisen for a Gardener to join the small team on this beautiful private estate in Hertfordshire.  The impressive period property is framed by gardens designed by a highly respected Chelsea Gold Medal winning designer who continues to be involved with the gardens at a consultative level.  This is an excellent opportunity for a passionate and enthusiastic gardener to build upon existing skills and knowledge, whilst working within a friendly and talented team.

The privately owned estate encompasses approximately 30 acres, of which five are gardens maintained to a very high standard.  The gardens are open once a year at the end of May as part of the NGS scheme, and as testament to their popularity, have recently broken the regional record for the most successful turnout in a day.  The varied site comprises of a ¾ acre walled garden, a 1 ½ acre ornamental garden with water features, trees, shrubs, perennials and a long list of additional features, plants and areas beyond.  Glasshouses on site are used for propagation and the storage of tender house plants.  The remainder of the estate encompasses paddocks/ménage, a tennis court, rough grassland and a swimming pool.  The garden team are noted for their small but much-praised production of fruit and vegetables, of which some are used for home-made preserves and juices. The estate also provides a home for various animals (cows, sheep, horses etc.) so you may be asked to assist in their management at times.

Due to the departure of a long-serving employee, an opening has arisen for a new gardener to join the remaining team of four Gardeners.  Applicants for the role should be passionate horticulturalists, enthusiastic and ideally with a good basic knowledge or some experience in an ornamental and kitchen garden. Spraying certificate and experience with garden machinery is an advantage.   You will be working under the direction of the existing Head Gardener; a very knowledgeable horticulturalist and well-respected educator and mentor at the estate.

A full driving licence and your own transport is required, and a positive attitude and good sense of humour are essential.  This is an excellent opportunity for the right candidate to develop their skill set in a beautiful setting, alongside a supportive and knowledgeable small team.
