Our client is a long-established, family-run commercial horticultural nursery based near Perth, Scotland. Operating from a 5-hectare glasshouse production site, the business specialises in the growing, production, and supply of high-quality bedding plants, seasonal plants, and horticultural products to garden centres and customers throughout the region.

With a strong reputation within the horticulture industry, this successful wholesale nursery is committed to maintaining the highest standards of plant quality, production efficiency, and customer service.

Due to continued growth and future development plans, they are seeking an experienced Nursery Team Leader to join their team and play a key role in supporting the daily operations of the nursery.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Nursery Supervisor, Production Nursery Team Leader, or horticultural professional who enjoys working in a fast-paced commercial growing environment, leading teams, improving efficiency, and being actively involved in all aspects of plant production and nursery operations.

 

Job Description:

As Nursery Team Leader, you will play a key role in supporting the smooth running of a busy commercial production nursery, helping to organise teams, maintain high production standards, and ensure customer orders are prepared and dispatched efficiently.

This is a practical, hands-on leadership role suited to someone with experience within a wholesale nursery, plant production environment, or commercial horticultural business.

The role will involve supporting both nursery production and dispatch operations, with responsibilities changing throughout the year depending on seasonal requirements.

You will help lead and motivate a team of nursery staff, support training and development, maintain excellent standards of work, and ensure the nursery continues to operate efficiently throughout the growing season.

Key Responsibilities:

Nursery Production & Horticultural Operations:

  • Support the daily running of a busy commercial plant production nursery
  • Assist with planning and coordinating seasonal growing activities
  • Oversee and support teams working across different areas of the nursery
  • Maintain high standards of plant quality, presentation, and production efficiency
  • Assist with crop production, plant movement, watering, spacing, and general nursery operations
  • Understand and adapt to seasonal changes within a commercial horticultural environment
  • Support continuous improvement across nursery processes and operations

Team Leadership & Staff Development:

  • Lead, supervise, and motivate a team of nursery staff
  • Provide guidance, training, and support to team members
  • Encourage safe working practices and improve team performance
  • Help create a positive, productive, and collaborative working environment
  • Support the wider management team with daily operational decisions
  • Assist with organising workloads and allocating staff effectively

Dispatch & Order Management:

  • Coordinate the preparation and loading of customer orders
  • Ensure plant dispatch operations are completed accurately and efficiently
  • Support the organisation of deliveries to garden centres and customers
  • Assist with stock control and plant availability checks
  • Maintain excellent attention to detail when preparing customer orders
  • Identify opportunities to improve dispatch processes and reduce errors

Skills & Experience:

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Previous experience working within a commercial production nursery or horticultural growing environment
  • Experience as a Nursery Team Leader, Nursery Supervisor, Nursery Foreman, Assistant Nursery Manager, or experienced Nursery Operative looking to progress
  • Experience leading, supervising, and motivating a team
  • Strong understanding of plant production, nursery processes, and seasonal workloads
  • Ability to work practically within a fast-paced horticultural environment
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Excellent communication skills and a proactive approach

Desirable Qualifications & Experience:

  • Forklift licence or previous forklift experience
  • PA1 / PA2 spraying certificates
  • Experience working within a wholesale nursery dispatch operation
  • Knowledge of commercial plant production systems

(Additional training and qualifications can be provided for the right candidate.)

Location:

Based near Perth, Scotland.
