Maintenance Team Leader

From horticruitment

Working For: Oaklands Gardens

Maintenance Team Leader Vacancy

Oaklands are a Chesham (Bucks) based, high-end regular maintenance company, looking for that special someone to lead one of our maintenance teams for our lovely customers. Much of our work is in Beaconsfield, Gerrards Cross & Amersham.

You must have extensive experience leading high-end maintenance teams and/or a proven history of delivering immaculate gardens for customers who demand an exceptional service.

As a company, we pride ourselves on plant knowledge and work in some very technical and demanding gardens. You will be tested on this element during any interview process.

Ideally a 5-day week, but we’re open to flexible working (would need to be whole days, but less days considered).

A company 30 years in the making with 300 regular maintenance gardens (private homes). Operating from a small commercial unit in Chesham, with a rural store and our own green waste facility – we do this on a reasonable scale. We always have demand beyond our capacity, and would like to be able to take on some wonderful new places. We are fussy with the gardens we take on.

Beyond learning our customers’ gardens and requirements, we expect this role to be for someone who can lead maintenance teams from day 1.

In November 2019 Oaklands became employee owned. 100% of the company is held in trust (like a teeny John Lewis) and a big part of this is improving the overall package available to employees. Being employee owned we can pay tax free bonuses (after qualifying period), but we hope to have other benefits included soon and a review of wages! Coronavirus slowed us a little, but we are well placed to press on (we pay the founders of the company from trading profits).

We would expect you as a Maintenance Team Leader to possess PA1 & PA6 licences unless there was a good reason this has not been necessary in your career.

Days usually start at the first job of the day and end at our base in Chesham.

Beyond an ability to undertake what can be a physically demanding role, we welcome diversity among applicants – we’re already a diverse and neurodiverse group. We are Disability Confident employers. We work year-round, long days in all weathers.

Our Maintenance Team Leader role is a full-time appointment. Annual holiday of 28 days (inc 8 Bank Holidays & pro rata in the first year) and a defined contribution workplace pension scheme. Company BUPA health policy after qualifying period, and can add partners/children at commercial rates through salary sacrifice.

A full driving licence for UK roads is essential and experience driving larger panel vans very useful. Please let us know of additional experiences and skills.

Staff are welcome to use work vans for journeys to/from work. Tax-free bonus after qualifying period. Tips, subsidised ‘tuck shop’.

Full-time, Permanent. From £35,000 (includes a tax-free element/bonus).
