An attractive new vacancy has arisen for an experienced Assistant Gardener to join a small team on a private estate close to Reigate, Surrey.  The Head Gardener, under whom the successful candidate will work, has managed in the garden for the past 30-years and is keen to develop the skills and knowledge of the team on an ongoing basis.  This role would suit an experienced gardener with good physical fitness and a positive friendly character.

The garden encompasses approximately 5-acres with a portion being a woodland garden, and contains mainly ornamental and woodland plants along with other areas of semi-formal herbaceous borders around the house. The remaining areas comprise a small kitchen garden, woodland paths with rhododendrons and azalea, a greenhouse, open lawn, pond and mature specimen trees.

The ideal candidate will hold an academic horticultural qualification combined with hands-on experience in a similar role on a private estate garden setting. Applicants must be happy to work outdoors all year round in a garden where flexibility and a common sense approach are required. Applicants should enjoy working in a small team, be hardworking, reliable and comfortable/competent with the safe and efficient operation of garden machinery.  A full driving licence is essential for the commute to and from work as the estate is located rurally. 

Hours of work are anticipated to be 40-hours per week with salary dependant on experience.  There is no accommodation provided with this role, so applicants will ideally live within 45-minutes’ commute of the property, currently.
