Kingdom Farming LLP is a large family run diverse farming contracting business operating throughout central Scotland.  We are currently recruiting for a Tree Nursery Manager, to run a large-scale forestry tree nursery and glasshouse for Kilrie Trees Ltd.

We require an experienced horticulturalist who will help run and develop our indoor large-scale forestry tree nursery with glasshouse.  We will produce 1.9m 20-60 cm, cell grown trees pa with the option to expand the site to 4m trees pa after year 2.   

About the Role:

We are looking to recruit an experienced horticulturalist who will help and grow a new business.   Reporting to the Project Manager, the Tree Nursery Manager will be responsible for the production of approx. 3 million container grown forestry trees. This will include production planning and for overseeing all managerial functions including staff recruitment, health and safety, all year-round crop production, mechanisation, managing financial budgets, reporting to Project manager and liaising with customers.


-Taking responsibility for the intensive production of container grown trees for use in commercial and environmental forestry schemes.

-Working closely with key stakeholders of the business to develop strong relationships.

-Leading the development and implementation of exemplary customer service, including responding to customer requests and enquires.

-Setting up and coordinating administrative, record-keeping, inventory, requisitioning, and marketing activities, including the launch and promotion of the tree nursery.

-Undertaking recruitment, selection, training and management of nursery staff.

-Establish a safe working environment by creating and implementing health and safety policies and procedures and adhering to legal standards.

-Training and supporting nursery staff.

Location & Commitments:

-Permanent full-time role Nr Kirkcaldy, Fife, Scotland

-Monday to Friday, 39 per week, 8.00 am to 4.30 pm. With a 15-minute unpaid morning break and a 30-minute unpaid lunch break each day.

-You will be required to work additional hours as necessitated by the needs of the business this will include weekends and evenings.

-Due to the nature of our business, the Company does not recognise public/bank holidays, which are viewed as normal working days.

Candidate Requirements:

-Experienced horticulturalist, with significant experience working within an intensive horticulture nursery and a passion for conservation.

-Good horticultural knowledge from selecting seed to growing and nurturing plants including detailed knowledge of all year-round plant production, containers, growing medium, irrigation plant nutrition and the use of artificial light and heating.

-Experience in using horticulture machinery such as seeding and try filling lines.

-Pesticide application competence and certification PA1 and PA6

-Full driving licence

-Excellent managerial skills with a commitment to customer service.

-Experience of staff management, from recruitment and selection to managing and motivating a successful team.

-Good IT skills

-Knowledge and experience of health and safety management

-Ability to work outdoors and in a greenhouse environment


-Experience in working within the tree nursery industry.

-Basic understanding of woodland creation

-Environmental conscience, commitment to reducing global warming.
