English Country Gardeners
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Sole Gardener to join a beautiful family Estate near Swindon. This role would suit a qualified and experienced gardener with the drive and initiative to maintain a horticulturally diverse garden to a high standard.
The estate’s incredible gardens and grounds have been skilfully restored or re-created over the years. The 10 acres established garden has extensive formal lawns to three sides of the house that are interspersed with mature beds, an ornamental pond and an impressive collection of specimen trees. There is a woodland area, naturalistic garden, kitchen garden, glasshouse as well as a second walled garden surrounding an outdoor swimming pool.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the planting, specialist pruning, soil cultivation and bed preparation, propagation, weeding and lawn care among other responsibilities. Additional assistant will be provided during the spring / summer when it is busiest. Our client is looking for candidates who are enthusiastic, self-motivated, proactive and physically fit. A hands-on approach and meticulous attention to detail are also essential qualities. In addition, the gardener would be willing to occasionally assist with basic non horticultural duties around the estate such as key hold responsibilities, managing contractors and assisting with the dogs.
Excellent plant knowledge and all-round horticultural skills are required, and it would be preferable for applicants to hold a recognised horticultural qualification. Experience of working in a large garden of a similar nature would also be advantageous. PA1/PA6 spraying certificates and chainsaw certificates would be desirable, though not essential as training can be provided if necessary. The owners have investing significantly in a wide range of garden machinery, therefore the ability to operate and maintain a range of garden machinery is essential. A driving licence is required for the role.
A 3-bedroom accommodation is provided onsite for the successful applicant rent free. Council Tax and Utilities are covered by the Landlord. Partners, children and pets are welcome.
