A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an experienced and trustworthy Sole Gardener to take ownership of a small private estate garden near Potters Bar, Hertfordshire. The role will suit a maintenance gardener with the ability and willingness to help out from time to time with general estate maintenance tasks normally related still to the garden.
Set in a wider 8 acres of paddocks and meadows, the 1.5-acre formal garden comprises of lawns with mixed beds and borders, a small pond, mature trees, and hedges consisting of hornbeam, laurel, yew, and beech. Surrounding paddocks are to be mowed with a Deere mulching mower.
The primary focus of the role is the mowing, strimming, weeding, blowing, hedge trimming, plant care and general maintenance of the garden as well as the non-horticultural aspects of the estate such as patio cleaning to a high standard and keeping the main garden seating areas well. Professional contractors will be brought in where necessary, but applicants may be required to do light painting or basic DIY if the weather prohibits external garden works.
The ideal candidate will have good physical fitness, a proven ability to manage their own time and demonstrate competency in the operation and basic maintenance of garden machinery.
Applicants will ideally hold spray certificates, a chain saw certificate or be willing to get one, a full driving licence, and a positive ‘can-do’ attitude. Working hours are 8 am – 4 pm.
Please note the successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced DBS check.
SALARY: Up to £35,000
