Skilled Gardener required for our client – an established company operating from West London specialising in the design and construction of bespoke residential gardens. They offer a range of services, including garden design, landscaping, maintenance, and garden refurbishments. Their work encompasses the creation of both traditional and contemporary garden styles, including hard landscaping like patios and pathways, soft landscaping like planting, and water features. The company caters to a diverse clientele, including private residential clients, commercial clients, and property management companies.
Their projects often range from small urban gardens to large estates, with a focus on high-quality craftsmanship and attention to detail. Additionally, they provide regular garden care services, ensuring that clients’ spaces remain beautiful and functional throughout the year. They have won a number of industry awards for their work and unique designs which often incorporate specialist materials and features requiring the highest standard of workmanship. They currently have a vacancy for a career driven and passionate Horticulturalist both on a junior or more senior level, to be part of their successful and progressive company.
Job Description:
The Horticulturist would be responsible for overseeing the upkeep and development of gardens and landscapes for both residential and commercial clients. The person appointed will be working within a small team of 2-3 working on individual projects reporting to Maintenance Manager. The successful candidate will be assisting in high end domestic garden maintenance.
Their duties will include but are not limited to:
Garden Maintenance: Performing routine tasks such as mowing, weeding, pruning, trimming, planting, and watering to ensure gardens remain healthy and visually appealing.
Supervision: Those on a more senior level will be leading a team of gardeners or maintenance staff, providing guidance and training where necessary, and ensuring that all work meets the company’s high standards.
Client Interaction: Communicating with clients to understand their requirements and preferences, offering advice on plant care, garden improvements, and ensuring customer satisfaction.
Garden Improvement: Proposing and executing garden enhancement projects, such as installing new plants, seasonal planting, or making aesthetic and functional improvements to the existing landscape.
Use of Equipment: Operating and maintaining garden machinery and tools, ensuring they are used safely and efficiently.
Record Keeping: Maintaining records of work carried out, monitoring plant health, pest control, and irrigation systems, and providing reports to clients or management.
Problem Solving: Diagnosing plant health issues, pest infestations, or soil problems and implementing solutions.
Sustainability: Ensuring that gardening practices are environmentally friendly, including composting, waste management, and water conservation where possible.
This role would require strong horticultural knowledge, practical gardening skills, leadership abilities, and a client-focused approach.
Key Skills:
Candidates must have a dedicated and positive attitude to work with the ability to work in a team but also supervise where needed. The successful candidate will have a keenness to learn and have experience in operating garden machinery with an eye for detail. Normal hours of work will be 07:30-16:30 with overtime, salary and level of position will be dependent on previous garden maintenance knowledge and experience.
