Our client is a family run, independent garden centre based in Bolton who are now looking for a Plantarea Assistant Manager to join the team and play a vital role in providing excellent standards across the department. They are renowned for providing a wide range of products from indoor and outdoor plants and seeds, garden care supplies and furniture, homeware, and gifts, as well as a popular food hall and café. The centre is run by a friendly team that is committed to growing the business, setting high standards, delivering the best horticultural advice, and making a visit to the centre as pleasurable as possible.

Job Description

As Plantarea Assistant Manager you will be reporting to the Plantarea Manager and assist in the day to day running of the department, maintaining a high standard of presentation, and monitoring the quality and health of all plant stock on site. The successful candidate will assist and lead in the development and motivation of the plantarea team, while creating a smooth running and pleasant environment.

Key Responsibilities

-Working closely with the Plantarea Manager to assist in the smooth and successful running of the area

-Deputising in the absence of the Plantarea Manager

-Merchandising of a wide range of plants and creating eye catching seasonal displays

-Playing a key role in stock purchasing and control

-Implementing seasonal changes and promotions

-Providing excellent horticultural advice to customers with regards to plant care, plant health, pest and disease control and appropriate advice on chemicals, fertilizers, and aggregates.

-Maintenance of all plants and good housekeeping standards

-Keeping track of all KPI’s and company targets

-Leading, motivating, and supervising a team of staff

-Displaying good communication skills when dealing with customers, colleagues, and suppliers

Candidate Skills 

As the Plantarea Assistant Manager, you will have proven track record in garden centre retailing: you will know this working environment well. Applicants will ideally hold an RHS level 1 or 2 certificate or equivalent, have an in-depth and wide-ranging understanding of horticulture with excellent plant knowledge

-Excellent plant knowledge

-Experience working within in a Plantarea or Plant Nursery

-Previous supervisory/management experience

-A meticulous eye for detail and brilliant written and verbal communication skills

-A positive attitude with the ability to inspire and motivate a team
