Role Overview

Our client is seeking an experienced, professional, and proactive Senior Gardener to support Head Gardeners and Gardeners in delivering exceptional garden maintenance and horticultural services. This is a client-facing position requiring gardening expertise, excellent communication skills, leadership capability, and a commitment to maintaining outstanding gardens while building lasting client relationships.

The Senior Gardener will play a key role in day-to-day garden maintenance, mentoring junior team members, maintaining health and safety standards, and ensuring gardens are cared for to the highest professional standard.

This role is ideal for someone with experience in professional gardening, horticulture, garden maintenance, and estate gardening ideally with a focus on domestic gardening.

Key Responsibilities

Garden Maintenance & Horticultural Duties

  • Assist Head Gardeners and Gardeners with weekly garden maintenance visits across client properties and sites. Develop an understanding of each garden, site requirements, client preferences, and seasonal maintenance schedules.
  • Ensure gardening tasks are completed to a high horticultural standard and within required timeframes.
  • Stand in for the Head Gardener when required, ensuring garden visit notes and maintenance plans are followed. Support planning and organisation for upcoming visits, schedules, and workload requirements.
  • Carry out additional duties aligned with the role when reasonably required.
  • Build, strengthen, and maintain excellent client relationships. Represent the business positively and professionally while working on client properties.
  • Support and guide Gardeners by demonstrating safe working practices and explaining required tasks and processes. Assist colleagues with planning and organisation to ensure efficient delivery of services.
  • Ensure gardening tools, machinery, and equipment are maintained and cared for appropriately. Report maintenance issues or equipment concerns immediately to the Head Gardener. Participate in weekly operational duties including cleaning and restocking maintenance vans, tidying maintenance barns and yard areas, supporting end-of-week operational close-down procedures
  • Follow all site-specific risk assessments and health and safety procedures. Promote safe working practices across the team and ensure appropriate PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) is used at all times.

Skills & Experience Required

Essential

  • Previous professional gardening, horticulture, grounds maintenance, or landscape maintenance experience.
  • Strong knowledge of garden care techniques and horticultural best practices.
  • Excellent communication and client relationship skills.
  • Ability to lead by example and support junior team members.
  • Strong organisational and forward-planning abilities.
  • Proactive and positive approach to work.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Commitment to health and safety procedures.
  • Professional presentation and customer service mindset.

Desirable

  • Experience using garden management or scheduling software systems.
  • Relevant horticultural qualifications or industry training.

Working Hours: Monday – Friday 7:30am – 5:00 pm
