Alternative Text

A fantastic opportunity is available for an enthusiastic and responsible Senior Groundsperson / Amenity Team Leader for the gardens and parkland at a private garden near Andover.  It is an extremely exciting chance to be involved in a site that is both an existing landscape as well as a new project. The garden and parkland require work to bring selected elements back into shape. The role sits within the wider garden team, under the leadership of the Head Gardener.

As Senior Groundsperson for the Garden and Parkland, you will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the garden, arboretum, paddocks, and parkland areas.  The Groundsperson should have strong horticultural or arboricultural knowledge, including parkland and lake management, tree care, formal lawn and semi-formal grassland management, and experience of working in a leading private or public garden at the highest standards.

Some parts of the garden are currently under construction, so you’ll be joining the project during the on-going implementation phase. The site incorporates many new areas, which have been enhanced with recent planting, mature specimen trees, mixed shrub and herbaceous borders, formal and informal planting, formal lawns, hedges, water features.

The position is fulltime, and the Groundsperson will typically work with and manage a team of three horticulturists while also liaising with external contractors, as required, for specialist horticultural or maintenance projects. Proven experience in both administrative and practical management of gardens and landscapes throughout the year is also required. It will be necessary to gain a working understanding of the relevant tools and machinery required for day-to-day management of the garden and parkland areas and keep up-to-date records and daily diaries accordingly.

The successful candidate will be expected to support the maintenance of all garden and parkland areas, but the majority of the teams’ time will involve maintaining to a high standard the Main Garden and Parkland.  The candidate must be willing to undertake training as required and have qualifications in the safe use of Pesticides (PA1 and PA6A). Extensive experience in the use of horticultural machinery and equipment would be an advantage. The candidate will have proven experience at leading and managing a team while also having a good understanding of the relevant Health and Safety Regulations, environmental management, manual handling and risk assessment.

Candidates must have excellent interpersonal skills, be self-motivated, capable of managing and working as part of a team with a valid driving license. They must also be flexible and willing to jump in when needed and support the broader Team during busy periods.

Role to commence in March 2025. Accommodation can be provided if required, depending on the candidate’s circumstances – to be discussed.
