Our client offers a friendly, supportive, and inclusive environment and are seeking a candidate to bring their plant knowledge and passion to the team.

The Assistant Plant Area Manager’s responsibilities include working closely with the Plant Area Manager and the Plant Buyer to maintain the highest turnover. You will ensure efficient department operations as well as ensuring productivity, quality, and exceptional customer service standards in the manager’s absence.

Ultimately, you will ensure that the department runs smoothly and that customers enjoy a pleasant shopping experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • General housekeeping of the department; delegating and maintaining high standards.
  • Merchandising of products on the shop floor, ensuring all products are clearly priced & displayed safely & relevant to the season.
  • Provide excellent customer service & display a ‘Can do’ attitude.
  • Maintaining excellent retail standards.
  • Involved in the Planning & Management of the plant team.
  • Liaising with the department manager on weekly stock intake.
  • To oversee and run the department in the Managers absence.
  • Allocating staff duties to ensure all tasks are actioned in priority order and completed within an acceptable timescale.
  • Ensuring that there is sufficient staff presence on the shop floor to assist customers.
  • Involvement in staff training, probation reviews, return to work interviews, performance conversations and supporting with recruitment as required.
  • Updating the team with information such as promotions, new lines, displays and seasonal changes; making sure key information is communicated effectively.
  • Demonstrate strong housekeeping methods to the team both on the shop floor and back areas.
  • Demonstrate good problem-solving skills and making effective decisions.
  • Demonstrate accountability for your area.
  • Ensuring customers and staff are safe by implementing the relevant health & safety procedures.

Requirements:

  • Punctuality and reliability.
  • Smart and well presented.
  • Horticultural knowledge.
  • Excellent customer service skills and strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work under pressure, be self-motivated and adaptable.
  • Good interpersonal skills, confidence and ability to approach customers.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Excellent communication skills – you’ll be speaking regularly with various stakeholders.
  • The ability to work to deadlines efficiently and effectively.
  • A strong background in retail management.
  • A proven track record un delivery.
  • An understanding of garden centre operations.
