Nursery Plant Production Manager

Position: Full-time, permanent, but we are able to offer reduced hours in Winter. This could also extend to August, for example if you have children.

Hours: 5-days a week (Including either Saturday or Sunday) 8.30am – 5.30pm.

Salary: Competitive salary (up to £30,000 per annum) dependent on previous experience.

About us:

Swarkestone Nursery is a proudly independent, family run Plant Nursery and Garden Centre, with over five generations of growing history, based in South Derbyshire.

We specialise in growing bedding and vegetable plants, produced on site by our skilled plants-people.

The ideal Nursery Production Manager will:

  • Have experience of working in a horticulture nursery, preferably including seasonal plant production.
  • Have excellent knowledge of plants, plant care and maintenance.
  • Have knowledge of irrigation systems.
  • Have an enthusiastic personality with an ability to easily engage with and connect with our customers.
  • Have a creative and entrepreneurial attitude towards plant retailing.
  • Be able to recognise and act on sales opportunities.
  • Be meticulous to the detail in terms of product placement, standards, presentation, visual elevation and overall look and feel.
  • Have an ability to manage and develop a team.
  • Be able to work full-time, and/or work reduced hours during Winter months. This could also extend to August for those with children.

Duties Involved:

  • Ordering young plant stock, growing media and pots from various suppliers.
  • Supervising a small team with both mechanised pricking-out and hand potting.
  • Creating planted arrangements including hanging baskets.
  • Producing festive wreaths and arrangements. Training can be provided.
  • Inputting this data onto our CSY Vector EPOS till system. Training can be provided.
  • Making labels using in-house software, and other POS items. Training can be provided.
  • Giving great customer service through expert plant knowledge.
  • Maintaining good quality plant stock by irrigating, feeding, weeding, dead-heading etc.
  • Keeping the bedding and vegetable retail area tidy and well merchandised.
  • Maintaining cleanliness across the nursery.
