They currently seek a Team Leader to lead a small team, in the deliverance of a variety of grounds maintenance tasks across their wide portfolio of clients.

Job Brief:

Our client is looking for someone to further increase the quality of the service they provide. The appointed candidate will be responsible for managing a small team as well as ensuring all operations are completed to correct, high horticultural standards. You would report directly to the Managing Director but would be responsible for the day to day running of your jobs, this role is a ‘hands on’ gardening role combined with the addition of required managerial capabilities. The successful candidate will be friendly, motivated, and reliable, supporting their team to ensure their sites are properly maintained, while adhering to health and safety procedures.

Duties will include:

  • Liaise with clients and suppliers.
  • Lawn care, hedge cutting, edging and pruning shrubs.
  • Implementation of planting schemes, soft landscaping when instructed.
  • Pest and disease control.
  • Organising work schedules.
  • Maintenance of equipment .
  • Organising and tidying of company vehicle
Key Skills:

A PA1/PA6 spraying certificate is required for this position, alongside a full driving licence while a horticultural qualification is advantageous, yet not essential. Applicants will have a strong understanding of commercial landscape maintenance and have previous experience with leading a team. Gardener / Housekeeper

A self-motivated gardener and a diligent part time housekeeper are sought after to maintain the house and gardens of our client’s main residence in North Yorkshire. The position is open to a Sole Gardener offering 40 hours a week or a professional gardener (40 hours / week) and part-time Housekeepers (hours between 20 – 30 a week – flexible depending on candidate requirements) as a couple. 

The mature gardens of the 1-acre main property are made up of large herbaceous, perennial and some annual boarders, lawn, shrubs, hedges and a pond with a water feature. The Gardener will be responsible for the general maintenance of the gardens including planting, weeding, deadheading, pruning, mulching, lawncare, and hedge cutting. As well as general grounds maintenance and care of outdoor furniture.

The gardener will be self-sufficient and excellent at managing their own time. The successful candidate will have good all rounded horticultural knowledge for all areas mentioned above and ideally hold a horticultural qualification. Good lawn care and the ability to operate a range of garden machinery including a ride on mower, strimmer and the usual garden machinery would be advantageous. It would also be beneficial but not essential to hold a PA1 and PA6A pesticide and herbicide spraying licence.

The Housekeeper will be responsible for the maintenance, cleaning and the day to day running of the principal’s 6-bedroom property. This is the primary residence for the couple who have occasional visits from their adult children, so there will be times where the home will need to be prepped for the arrival of guests. Duties will include but not limited to daily cleaning and occasional deep cleaning of the property, changing beds on a regular basis and preparing spare rooms for guests, family laundry and ironing, care of antiques and specialist surfaces throughout the home, identifying any maintenance issues and liaising with appropriate contractors accordingly and stocking the home with appropriate items including coordinating grocery shopping (cooking not essential but would be a bonus).

The ideal couple will have proven experience working together in a similar role offering longevity and checkable references. Due to location, both sides will need to be confident drivers with their own vehicle. The principals travel in which case the couple will be responsible for the security of the property which would also involve pet sitting for the 2 family dogs (spaniels).

Accommodation is provided for the successful applicants as a 2-bedroom off site cottage approximately 5–10 minute drive away from the main property.

As an Outdoor Team Leader you will be responsible for planning the layout of the outdoor area and ensuring plants are presented to a high standard.   You will be ordering plants and planning for the seasonal changes. You will mentor and work with the outdoor team to deliver excellent customers service, ensure that products are merchandised and maintained to minimise wastage and keep your team involved so that they can carry out their duties efficiently.

You will work closely with the Garden Centre Manager on the continual development of the Outdoor and indoor plant areas.

Key Responsibilities
  • Sourcing plants from appropriate suppliers
  • Planning ahead for the different seasons
  • Maintenance of stock through watering and health control to ensure minimum wastage
  • Outdoor merchandising and presentation including health and safety.

Candidate Skills 

The appointed person will possess retail experience working within a horticultural environment with an extensive knowledge of garden plants, bedding, and hardy stock, including their care and cultivation.

As the Outdoor Team Leader, you’ll need to have the following experience:

  • Extensive plant knowledge.
  • Experience managing a team.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • A strong work ethic and an entrepreneurial spirit.
  • A qualification in a horticultural subject would also be an advantage.

We seek applications from Junior Gardeners who have recent experience or have done a horticultural qualification relevant to the position, this is a key role, working directly under the Head Gardener on this well-established country estate in North Yorkshire.

There are approximately 6 /7acres of highly developed gardens, consisting of formal planted areas, including herbaceous beds and shrubberies. There are also many trees including an area of woodland and streams, formal hedges, topiary, ponds and lawns, as well as a kitchen garden and glasshouses which are used to grow a variety of fruit and vegetables. The gardens are maintained to a high standard, requiring year round attention.

Applicants must have proven gardening experience, a passion for horticulture and a genuine desire to improve their knowledge from a hands-on and theoretical perspective. Applicants with good plant identification skills are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will be self-motivated, physically fit, and capable of working to a high degree of detail.  The work will involve daily operation of garden machinery (strimmers, mowers and hedge cutters etc.) so candidates will be well-versed in this area, whether from a commercial or private estate background.

The 3-acre formal gardens slope down towards a pond at the end of the garden and consist of lawns, mixed borders and beds, hedges and trees including fig and apple trees. The garden is part of a wider estate including 5 acres of woodland and farmland.

A rare opportunity has arisen for an experienced Head Gardener and Housekeeper/Cook couple to join an impressive private estate in North Yorkshire, on a permanent full-time basis.  An excellent combined salary and a splendid three-bedroom lodge house are offered in return for experience, professionalism and discretion.  Applications are sought from experienced and qualified Head Gardeners, and from Housekeepers with demonstrable experience in private service.

An experienced Housekeeper/Cook is also required and will ideally form part of a couple in conjunction with the Head Gardener.  The Housekeeper/Cook should be well organised, enthusiastic and well qualified with extensive knowledge of working in established private households and have many years’ experience and understanding of caring for fine clothing, china, crystal, silver and antiques. Typical duties will include responsibility for cleaning and upkeep of the house and will include washing, cleaning, ironing and cooking.

Both the Head Gardener and Housekeeper/Cook should hold full driving licences as occasional airport runs, railway station drop-offs and similar may be required.

The private estate extends to approximately 200-acres of parkland and grassland and incorporates a stud, which currently numbers 12 broodmares and a large quantity of young racing bloodstock.  The stud is under the management of the Stud Manager and the Stud Groom.

The formal garden extends to approximately three acres and comprises a Ha-ha, impressive mixed herbaceous borders, a small number of flower beds and mixed shrubs, with formal lawns and surrounding woodland.  The property also includes numerous young and mature trees, with pleached hornbeam and clipped limes.  A large greenhouse is used for propagation and will fall under the management of the Head Gardener.  A walled kitchen garden produces vegetables, soft fruits and cut flowers for the house.  A courtyard contains climbing roses and hanging baskets, with stone troughs containing summer bedding plants to provide colour and an attractive feature.  A tarmac tennis court is located adjacent to the formal garden and will require basic maintenance.

The Head Gardener is retiring after many years of loyal service, leaving an opening to be filled by an enthusiastic and time-served replacement Head Gardener with experience in each of the above garden areas.  Applicants for the role will ideally have excellent horticultural knowledge, physical fitness and experience at Head Gardener level on private estates.  The successful applicant will have responsibility for a long-serving and dedicated Assistant Gardener, so should have demonstrable experience of staff management.

The Head Gardener will be responsible for a range of gardening tasks associated with the smooth running of the estate, i.e. plant propagation, planting and pruning (including young trees from the ground), hedge cutting, lawn care, kitchen gardening and the management of fruit trees.  Applicants must also be competent in the safe operation and basic maintenance of a range of garden machinery and be used to working within established health and safety standards.  Spray certificates (PA1/PA6) and a chainsaw certificate of competence would be beneficial.

Additional responsibilities such as responding to alarms, general security, etc will be expected of the couple.

A Sole Gardener is sought after to maintain and manage the gardens of a stunning private Estate in a beautiful part of the country in North Yorkshire.

The Estate sits on the site of an 11th century manor and is surrounded by landscaped gardens and a moat. The 1-acre formal gardens contain a vegetable garden, fruit garden, rose & peony garden, solar dome greenhouse, herbaceous borders, extensive lawns, box hedging, ornamental grass with allium and plenty of climbing roses around the entire estate.

Our client is looking for a hand on and driven sole gardener to undertake a range of garden maintenance duties to a high horticultural standard including pruning and training roses, maintaining herbaceous borders, weeding, strimming and hedge cutting. He / She will not be required to maintain the lawns outside of the formal garden as there is another member of staff to maintain these features. The ideal candidate will have the determination and drive to get the job done and a have a vision for maintaining and enhancing the garden as required.

Applicants should ideally have a minimum level 2 horticultural qualification, PA1/PA6 spray certificates, combined with good plant knowledge. You will need to be organised, able to plan and prioritise your work load and work to a high standard. Experience with pruning and training roses and growing fruit and vegetables would be required for the role.

Other requirements for the role are good communications skills, you should be prepared to work outside in all weathers, be physically fit and have the ability to operate a range of garden machinery and good craft skills. There are 11 alpacas on site, therefore someone who would be willing to feed the herd twice a day whilst the owners are away would be an advantage.
