Experienced Gardener

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Experienced Gardener with the enthusiasm for maintaining a beautiful garden to a high standard set east of Peterborough. The position is full time, permanent and would suit a friendly and knowledgeable all rounded gardener.

The property is a beautiful old Victorian Rectory set within 7 acres of land. The majority of the estate is paddocks without animals onsite and the 3-acre garden consists of extensive manicured lawns, a topiary garden, several mixed beds and borders, roses, hedges with one large hedge along the driveway, old established trees and new trees that were planted this year.

The owner is passionate about her garden and will work closely with the experienced gardener in putting together the plans throughout the year. The owners are a friendly and private couple and therefore, discretion is important at all times. There are two part time gardeners who will assist the experienced gardener in maintaining the garden. Their son currently lives in Cambridge and the Gardener will be expected to maintain their garden once per week for this year.

The ideal candidate will be energetic, ambitious, and physically fit as the role is hands-on.  A passion for gardens and attention to detail is essential with good horticultural and plant knowledge. PA1/PA6 spray certificates and chainsaw certificates would be an advantage although training can be given. A driving licence is required for the role due to the rural locality of the estate and also a van is provided for work purposes. There is a wide range of machinery including gardening tools, vintage tractor and trailer therefore the ability to operate a range of garden machinery and good craft skills are also desirable for the role.

You will need to be organised, able to plan and prioritise your workload, have good communications skills and the ability to work alongside others. The working hours are 8 am to 4 pm with half an hour lunch but there can be some flexibility.

An excellent opportunity for a Skilled Gardener has arisen on an historic private estate in Cambridgeshire.  This role would suit an academically qualified and experienced gardener with a demonstrable background on private estates.  A generous salary is offered in addition to a cottage on site, if required.

At almost 500 years old, the Grade 2 Parkland estate exudes character and plays host to several archaeological features throughout its several hundred acres of land.  A one-acre walled garden is divided into six compartments and includes a parterre, a rose garden and ornamental planting.  The expansive grounds include lawns and a Ha-ha, a lake, mixed and herbaceous beds and borders, hedging, a sculpture garden, glasshouse (hot and cold), terraces and a ½ acre kitchen garden.  Native and specimen trees provide structure and depth to the property, as well as some privacy.
