Craft Gardener

This is a unique and exciting opportunity for an experienced and passionate Gardener to join a stunning estate in the north Cotswolds. The key focus for this role will be cut flower production alongside formulating regular floral displays for the house regularly.

This is a key position within a recently acquired private Cotswolds Estate that comprises traditional parkland area, fields and paths, traditional walled garden, kitchen gardens, formal and informal lawns, ponds, orchard, woods, arboretum, bed and borders of large Grade II listed Hall and its various guest houses and cottages.

Presently the gardens are in need of immediate restoration. However, the vision for the estate over a couple of years is to transition the current farming practices to more to natural wildflower rich fields, meadows, hedgerows with new additional woodlands and wetlands with the objective of increasing flora and fauna diversity.  Suitable contractors will support some of these new endeavours.

The successful candidate will ideally have an accredited horticultural qualification, while having a passion for cut flowers and the creation of floral displays throughout the seasons. Alongside this, the successful candidate will also assist throughout the wider estate with finer horticultural tasks such as pruning, herbaceous border maintenance, bed maintenance and the implementation of planting schemes. The successful candidate will report to the Head Gardener and Estate manager, while working closely with the wider team small team present at the estate.

The working week is Monday to Friday (with some shared weekend flexibility during seasonal intensive periods). References and a current DBS will be required.

 SALARY: Circa £30,000 DOE

Groundsperson

This is a unique and exciting opportunity for a confident and experienced Groundsperson to work within a private estate in the North Cotswolds.

This is a key position within a recently acquired private Cotswolds estate that comprises of traditional parkland area, fields and paths, traditional walled garden, kitchen gardens, formal and informal lawns, ponds, orchard, woods, arboretum, bed and borders of large Grade II listed Hall and its various guest houses and cottages.  The successful applicant will work within an existing team of four other gardeners and on occasions will be required to assist with general handyperson duties.

Ideally candidates will have proven practical experience working within a private estate. Reporting to and working closely with the Head Gardener, the Groundsperson will be involved in the regular maintenance of the formal gardens, whilst assisting with the ongoing development planned over the coming years. This role would suit someone hands on and able to carry out handyperson duties as and when required. Handyperson duties could range from putting up a shelf in the main house to repairing the boundary fences.

The vision for the estate over the next couple of years is to transition the current farming practices to more to natural wildflower rich fields, meadows, hedgerows with new additional woodlands and wetlands with the objective of increasing flora and fauna diversity. The owners are keen to move towards self sufficiency and are keen to source produce from the kitchen garden, orchards and through foraging across the wider estate. Therefore, they are open to ideas moving forward to increase the productivity of the estate. Overall, the gardening team will work with the kitchen team to utilise the wider ingredients (e.g. Game meats) harvested within the estate to produce healthy and nutritious meals.
