Our Client has been established for over 20 years and have been involved in commercial soft landscaping right across the South East, spanning as far north as Peterborough and as far west as Bristol. They have completed landscape schemes for a wide variety of clients, including company headquarters, new schools and academies, business and retail parks, superstores and industrial estates, as well as involvement in ecologically sensitive areas. The business has had a change of ownership in the last two years and a new CEO recently. They are currently looking for a motivated and skilled HSEQ Manager to join them on a full-time basis. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, they will be overseeing all aspects of safety and quality at site and management level. The successful candidate will be required to operate across the south of England.

Job Description:
  • Provide support in developing, reviewing and monitoring of the HSEQ Plan and objectives and targets.
  • Provide positive leadership and promote the adoption of best practice.
  • Responsible for developing, promoting and monitoring the HSEQ culture.
  • Lead and direct functional management for any HSEQ personnel under your control.
  • Identify areas of risk and develop measures to reduce and control.
  • Identify initiatives to improve performance and assist in addressing areas of poor performance.
  • Produce HSEQ performance reports as required.
  • Promptly alert line and functional management to significant accidents and incidents.
  • Responsible for reviewing accident and incident HSEQ reports and investigation.
Key Skills:
  • Significant experience in safety and environment within the landscape industry.
  • Good academic qualifications, minimum of NEBOSH certificate or equivalent desirable
  • Health & Safety Training (IOSH) Awareness of industry issues.
  • Experience of managing and developing staff.
  • Computer literate.
  • Hold a full, clean driving licence.

Decorative Gardener - Live Out - EC6320

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Decorative Gardener to develop and maintain the herbaceous and mixed borders on a beautiful private family estate, located near Hastings.  The Estate includes a 15-acre pleasure garden and is surrounded by pastures and woodland in the sunniest part of the country. 

Our client is looking for a Decorative Gardener to assist with horticultural duties such as developing and maintaining two long herbaceous and mixed borders of approximately 100 metres containing perennials in pastel colours, a hot border of mixed perennials and shrubs, a white border, a tropical border, terrace, front of house borders and various other decorative areas. The position reports in to the Head Gardener and the successful candidate will join a friendly and horticulturally passionate team 

The ideal candidate will have good horticultural knowledge and hold a level 2 horticultural qualification. He / She should be prepared to work outside in all weathers, have the determination and drive to get a job done and a have a vision for maintaining and enhancing the borders as required. The property is open to the public several times a year and is also a private garden, so you must always be presentable and personable for the owners to enjoy.  The role will focus on horticulture rather than general maintenance, so it is essential that you have good plant identification abilities and a genuine passion for plants. 

In addition, the estate gardening team participate in a local in bloom a community horticultural group devoted to enhancing the local village environment and support for this programme will be required (during the working day), from time to time as well as mentoring trainees as necessary.

A unique opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and driven gardener with a strong interest in kitchen gardening to be part of a friendly team on a private family estate, located on the East Sussex coast.

The majestic property sits among 90 acres of pleasure gardens, pastures and woodland in the sunniest part of the country.  The stunning gardens and property itself play host to numerous events throughout the year. 

Under the Head Gardener, the existing team manage the gardens, which are around 15 acres in size, however a vacancy has arisen for a Trainee Kitchen Gardener to manage a 1.5 acre Soil Association certified Victorian walled garden that has been modernised. The walled garden contains a variety of staple fruit and vegetables there is also the opportunity to grow more unusual varieties. The Trainee Kitchen Gardener will be responsible for the kitchen garden, orchard and second greenhouse and the supplies of fresh fruit and vegetables to the house. He / She will be required to carry out sowing and communicate with the house on the fruit and vegetable required throughout various times of year and for upcoming events. The orchard contains apple trees, quinces, pears, soft fruit and a fruit cage to be developed to look more decorative.

The ideal candidate should be passionate about food in relation to fruit and vegetable growing and know how they can be prepared.  You must hold a level 2 horticultural qualification at least, with a keen interest in growing produce.  You will also need to be an organised and proactive person with good record keeping abilities. Undergardener - Live Out - EC6156 - this position has now been filled

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Undergardener to work alongside the Head Gardener maintaining a beautiful and innovative 35-acre private estate near Rye, East Sussex.

The stunning garden is made up of several different character areas consisting of a very large formal English modern style garden with extensive perennial plantings, rose garden, fern garden, Italian garden, exotic beds, other shrub and perennial beds.  There is a young orchard, a large vegetable garden as well as a small new tree plantation, two large greenhouses, rose and clematis 'cloister' type walk, formal hedging and topiary and several formal lawn areas. The garden extends to around five acres in all.

The owners are garden enthusiasts and have been developing the gardens since they bought the property nearly 5 years ago and continue to do so. The Undergardener will work closely with the Head Gardener on any developments and will be willing to learn and develop their skills to later work on their own initiative. He / She will be responsible for the general maintenance of the garden such as the hedge cutting, lawn mowing, strimming, clearing leaves, weeding and support in other areas such as feeding and caring for the chicken and peacocks.

The ideal candidate will have good knowledge of plants, garden practices and the use of garden machinery. He / She will have proven general horticultural skills, work to a high standard and ideally is a keen knowledgeable plants person. Experience in vegetable and fruit production and propagation work would be an advantage.

The successful candidate will hold an academic horticultural qualification and have proven experience working in a large private garden. Chainsaw certification (CS30/31) though desirable is not essential, however spray certificates (PA1/PA6) would be an advantage.  You must be somebody who is organised, physically fit and able to work in a small team. Someone who is a fast learner, proactive and capable of working unsupervised generally once started off to maintain the garden's annual calendar and own daily work schedules effectively. References will be required for the successful candidate prior to starting work.

An opportunity has arisen for a Commercial Quantity Surveyor to take responsibility for various commercial soft landscaping projects, throughout the south east.

The role of Commercial QS is key to the company’s future development and success, in delivering successful outcomes to all stakeholders on their (growing) projects portfolio.

The successful person, who will report to the CEO, needs to have a keen commercial acumen and an eye for detail. They need to be able to support projects from pre-contract to final account.

 Job Description:
  • Liaise with BDMs, estimating team, operations and procurement (in time there may be cause/opportunity to amalgamate lead on procurement into this role)
  • Carry out pre and post tender/pricing negotiations to take a bid to contract status
  • Maintain contract documentation and advise on pre-tender and post contract matters
  • Prepare and issue contractual letters to clients and/or sub-contractors (including negotiating back to back terms with sub-contractors)
  • Carry out post contract liaison with clients
  • Ensure best practice in carrying out take offs for material procurement
  • Sub-contractor negotiation and letting of sub-contracts
  • Preparation and submission of interim valuations, liaising with operational managers
  • Management and valuing of variations, liaising with operational managers
  • Agreement and certification of sub-contractors interim valuations and final accounts
  • Preparation and submission of final account
  • Agreement of final accounts
  • Cost value reconciliation and ongoing project reporting
  • Supply regular analysis and reports as required
  • Suggest improvements to procedures and behaviour
Key Skills:
