An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced and qualified Head / Senior Gardener to manage an existing team in Tonbridge, Kent.  The position would suit senior gardeners with demonstrable staff and garden management experience and excellent attention to detail.

The expansive gardens encompass sports fields, mature trees and shrubs, mixed beds and borders, manicured lawns, ponds, tennis courts, mixed hedges, as well as numerous paths and hardstanding.  Numerous greenhouses are located within the site and as such, development and plant propagation will also be the responsibility of the new Head Gardener.  In addition to the main grounds, approximately 20 small gardens will require scheduled management by the garden team.

The successful applicant will be able to provide supervision and guidance to a small team and will report to the Commercial and Operations Director on a regular basis in relation to seasonal plans and overall improvement of the gardens.  Candidates should be able to demonstrate experience and confidence in the management of garden budgets, planning and scheduling, external contractors, health and safety, and associated record keeping.  A basic level of computer literacy is required in order to ensure the above records and processes are managed efficiently.  Basic knowledge of Arboriculture would also be of benefit.

The new Head Gardener will be able to appoint landscape architects and associated contractors, ensuring correct checks are in place and with a view to developing the site through major projects.  The development work will be overseen by the Head Gardener in order to ensure the quality of work is to specification and within budget.

Applicants should hold a recognised academic horticultural qualification as well as spray (PA1/6) and ideally a chainsaw certificate (CS30/31).  Experience with a full range of garden machinery is required, i.e. hedge cutters, ride-on and pedestrian mowers, blowers etc.  Candidates should be capable of carrying out annual reviews of the garden team members and will be an effective manager in terms of staff development and discipline.  A good level of physical fitness is required as this is a hands-on garden management role.

Kitchen Gardener - Live Out -EC3529

A rare opportunity has arisen for an experienced and talented Kitchen Gardener to manage the growing, picking and packing of high quality produce for supply to a Michelin Star restaurant.  This is a hands-on role based south of Royal Tunbridge Wells.

The gardens comprise of approximately one acre of organic productive vegetable and herb gardens, with two large glasshouses and a polytunnel.  Knowledge of productive horticulture including succession planting and drawing up of associated charts, cultivation of vegetables, fruit, herbs, edible flowers and micro herbs will be required as well as experience of propagation and the use of garden machinery.  A good working knowledge of organic pest and disease management and good plant husbandry is also essential.

The role will involve the running, management and maintenance of these areas on a year-round basis.  The successful candidate will be responsible for growing, picking and packing of a large variety of produce for the associated Michelin Star restaurant in London.

Applicants for this role must have extensive horticultural knowledge in terms of kitchen garden management and the continuous supply of high quality restaurant grade produce.  Clear and regular communication with the restaurant will be required, and you must have experience of growing high quality produce to meet the chef’s high standards and specifications.  Previous gardener/chef relationship experience is therefore desirable.

During peak season, early mornings will be required on picking and collection days.

Maintenance Gardener - Live Out - EC2780

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Maintenance Gardener to join the friendly team with a well-respected company, located approximately 10 miles west of Aylesford and 10 miles north of Tonbridge, Kent.

The company offers a full garden maintenance service for private and commercial clients in the wider area. The majority of business continues to be generated via positive word-of-mouth; a testament to the high level of service provided by the team.

Due to a continued increase in business, an additional Maintenance Gardener is required to join the team on a full-time permanent basis. Applicants should have a good level of maintenance gardening experience, good physical fitness, proficiency with a range of grounds maintenance machinery, and a positive friendly attitude.  A recognised horticultural qualification and spray certificates (PA1/PA6) would be beneficial, though candidates with a good level of experience will of course be considered.

The ideal candidate will be experienced in a range of gardening duties such as hedge cutting, lawn maintenance, pruning, planting, bed/border maintenance, and be willing to carry out a range of associated gardening tasks as they arise. Applicants must be conscientious and well presented with a positive attitude, as some interaction with property owners should be expected.  You should be willing to work in all weather conditions and be physically able to undertake typical garden maintenance tasks with good attention to detail.

The standard working week is 42.5hrs though applicants should expect seasonal variation, which will ensure considerable additional earning potential via overtime opportunities. A full UK driving licence and your own transport to and from work are essential.
