The centre places emphasis on sourcing from UK suppliers where possible, with 85% of plants coming from UK suppliers including the growth of the majority of bedding offerings in their onsite nursery.

Our client is seeking an experienced leader, who can drive sales and deliver a great customer experience.  As the new Garden Centre Manager, you will oversee all areas of the Centre, leading an experienced team of senior department managers and taking additional responsibility for the indoor and outdoor living area.

Responsibilities include:
  • Establish Centre and departmental budgets and targets and drive sales and profitability.
  • Oversee and ensure the department managers negotiate the best supplier deals for the company.
  • Attend trade shows and supplier showrooms as appropriate.
  • Lead the management team to ensure our customers get the best service possible.
  • As leader of the management team your responsibilities will, inter alia, include key holder duties.
  • Lead the training for all employees to ensure all our teams are delivering an excellent customer experience.
  • Be key in ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements, ensuring our employees and customers have a safe environment to work and shop in.
  • Be ahead of seasonal changes, ensuring the Centre is ready on time for Spring, Christmas etc.
  • Work closely with our social media and website teams to ensure content is up to date and relevant.
  • Liaise with the teams to ensure effective monthly newsletters and offers are sent to our loyalty card customers.
Key Skills-

Candidates must have proven and demonstratable experience within a retail operations management position, preferably a garden centre. Applicants for this role will be driven, having a strong work ethic to maximise their impact on the centre. excellent communication skills will be necessary, in order to form strong relationships with both employees and customers. A full UK driving licence is required.

Your key responsibilities will be: 

The company offer their services to a wide range of clients including high end domestic, as well as luxurious commercial sites within London and the surrounding areas. Contracts range from £150,000 to £1.5 million with multiple projects being live at anyone time, so candidates must have extensive experience in managing these important, high-end projects.

  • To prepare, present and progress estimates for high-end residential and commercial landscaping schemes with the assistance from the in-house estimator.
  • To manage Profit and Loss for individual projects.
  • To source hardscaping materials and plants, working in partnership with suppliers.
  • To coach and mentor Landscaping Team Leaders.
  • To champion and ensure compliance on all sites to the company’s Code of Conduct, Landscaping Standard Operating Procedures and Health and Safety Policy.
  • To build and sustain excellent client relationships.
  • To work collaboratively with designers, specialist contractors and other parties involved in projects (e.g. architects and engineers).

Skills and outlook: 

Excellent understanding of landscape design and build is key for this tole. You need to be educated to degree level or similar vocational qualification, with at least 5 years’ experience at managerial level of:

  • Costing & project managing high-end residential schemes.
  • Managing in-house teams and specialist contractors
  • Working effectively with discerning clients
  • Collaborating with other professionals including garden designers, architects, and engineers.
  • In addition, you need to demonstrate:
  • Strong focus on client satisfaction and excellent client-facing skills
  • Passion for landscaping craftmanship and quality
  • Good plant knowledge
  • Professional communication abilities (verbal and written) & negotiation skills
  • Excellent planning and organization skills
  • It would also be an advantage (but not essential) to offer design skills and experience of the design and build process.

As the House Manager/Butler you will be responsible for the overall management, care and upkeep of the property which will involve managing a housekeeper, as well as organising and liaising with outside contractors. The House Manager will ensure the property is secure at all times, oversee the maintenance of the property, and take responsibility for household inventory. Administrative responsibilities will include managing the household budget, petty cash management and keeping accurate accounting. Day to day you will deal with correspondence including emails, posts and phone calls keeping the principles updated frequently whilst liaising with the team of staff and sharing information to the team on behalf of the principle. This is also a hands-on role, and where required the successful candidates will be expected to roll up their sleeves and help in other areas such as with the household staff in the upkeep of the property.

Additional tasks will include Butler duties when the principles are in residence during July and August. Delivering exemplary customer service skills and display a genuine passion for creating an exceptional experience for all. Candidates should have extensive silver service experience with the ability to lay up and serve at table, serving drinks and canapés and announcing guests upon arrival. On occasion, the successful applicant may be required to travel to the principles other properties to cover existing staff, these are located in Monaco, Mougins and Sardinia.

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Head Gardener to play a key role in the ongoing maintenance and enhancement of a beautiful private estate in Gloucestershire.  The role will involve day-to-day hands-on leadership and supervision of a team of skilled gardeners in all aspects of the horticulturally diverse garden.  The successful candidate will need to work with the property owners to enhance and develop the garden on an ongoing basis.  This role will suit a horticulturist with strong experience at senior level within private service, strong time management skills, excellent horticultural knowledge and desire to take on a dynamic garden on a collaborative basis.

The Head Gardener will oversee the small team of gardeners and be the principal point of contact to the property owner.  Applicants must therefore be excellent communicators and be able to manage the team with diplomacy, whilst maintaining their respect. The property owners are genuinely enthusiastic and dedicated to their gardens and as such, this role will be varied and interesting with a high standard of horticulture required at all times. The garden is not open to the public. 

The intensely planted 9-acre formal garden has undergone major improvement works including a new design for the historic walled and wider garden areas by Tom Stuart-Smith, and the ongoing development of a productive garden and flower cutting area. Set within a stunning landscape, the garden includes the walled garden comprising productive and ornamental areas and a large, varied glasshouse.  Around the house, there are beautifully planted compartmentalised spaces with perennials, shrubs, roses and wonderful views.  Beyond the house a woodland garden leads to parkland. 

Applications are sought from experienced and knowledgeable private estate Senior/Head Gardeners who will have assumed responsibility of a large private garden and garden staff management previously. 

The successful candidate will be used to handling dynamic environments with some pressure at times, will be adept at problem solving and will enjoy rising to and managing challenges alongside a talented team.  Suitable candidates will be confident and considerate, motivated, organised and professional hands-on gardeners who are able to inspire their team.  The post holder will be socially confident with excellent communication skills and an ability and willingness to liaise with other property staff and engage positively with the owners and any consultants.  Good organisational experience with a very good general understanding of all areas of gardening including of perennials, roses, flower cutting and edible production are necessary in addition to lawn care and the operation and basic maintenance of garden machinery. The Head Gardener must have a good general understanding of kitchen gardening.  Applicants must be able to demonstrate an ability to attain consistently high standards of horticultural management and presentation within a private estate setting.

Gardener or Couple

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic Gardener with experience in garden maintenance to a high horticultural standard.

The beautiful all-seasons garden comprises of herbaceous and mixed borders with a vast array of ornamental species, including a vegetable garden, blue garden and a red garden, rose garden, lawn, arboretum with specimen oaks, and a woodland area.

Applicants for the gardener role will have experience and preferably hold horticultural qualification. Experience will include pruning, planting, propagating, growing as well as general garden maintenance including mowing, weeding, strimming and hedge cutting. In addition, the gardener will have good practical skills, be hands on, backed up with plant knowledge.

This is a live in or live out position. The accommodation provided is a lovely newly refurbished 2-bed accommodation and would be available free of all expenses for the right candidate. Animal lovers, but regrettably no pets of their own.

For the couple’s role, the partner would be employed as a second gardener or as a housekeeper. Duties under the responsibility of the housekeeper will consist of the upkeep of the main house by way of cleaning and maintaining to a very high standard, some laundry, shopping, some cooking desirable. At least one of the applicants must be a driver.

For the Gardener, working hours are anticipated to be Monday to Fridays 8am -5pm. The Housekeeper will be expected to work some weekends with time off during the week instead.

The owners recently purchased the property and are looking to carry out a complete restoration of the house and garden. The ideal candidate for the gardening position will have an eye for detail and a strong interest in getting involved in a rejuvenating and renewal project. The Gardener will be hands on, and in the initial stages, there will clearing and restoring e.g., overgrown topiary and lawncare as well as assist on the wider estate. When the structural foundations are in place for the garden, the gardener will work on the design of the garden (potentially with a landscape designer) and be responsible for the care and maintenance of the grounds to a high horticultural standard. This would include maintaining the lawns, hedge cutting, pruning, transplanting, weeding, etc. with seasonal help as necessary.

Housekeeping duties will consist of the upkeep of the main house by way of cleaning, laundry, ironing, weekly shopping, and some preparation of food when the owners are in residence. 

This opportunity is also open to a live out senior gardener who is experienced, organised, has good attention for detail and can work on their own initiative. A competitive salary would be provided depending on experience.

Couple

An exciting opportunity has become available for a Gardener / Housekeeper couple on a full time and permanent basis for a beautiful grade II* listed private estate on the Essex / Suffolk Border. The roles would suit a passionate and driven all rounded couple in their respective industries.

The garden was designed 25 years ago by the garden designer George Carter and has been developed into a stunning vista garden with incredible landscape views and expansive lawns. The estate covers about 50 acres including woodland, meadows and a 3-acre formal garden consisting of a rose garden, topiary, yew hedging a walled garden (cutting borders, raised beds, espalier fruit trees lining the walls of the garden, orangery) and a large, heated glasshouse housing tropical plants. There is also a croquet lawn and swimming pool area. The majority of the garden is kept organic, and the owners are looking to continue to promote organic practices and methods. The garden has occasionally been open to the public in the past to help raise money for charities.

The owners are friendly and have a positive working environment at the estate. There is a small team on the estate that work closely together. The Lady of the house has a keen interest in the garden and is passionate about plants. She used to be hands-on in the garden but has taken a step back and works closely with the gardeners. They are looking for an enthusiastic gardener to join a small team on a long-term basis to manage and maintain the gardens. The successful candidate must be a team player, hardworking, able to operate machinery, along with plant knowledge and a friendly manner with a flexible approach to their work.

Duties under the responsibility of the Housekeeper will consist of the upkeep of the main house by way of cleaning, tending to laundry, ironing, changing beds, taking deliveries, and shopping.

A 4-bedroom cottage is provided with rent, council tax, water and super-fast Wi-fi paid by the employer. Family and pets may be accommodated, subject to approval.  A very friendly informal environment, but with high standards.

Earning an international reputation for understanding and interpreting ideas to create outdoor spaces beyond client imaginations and expectations and this is why they are trusted by such a collection of high-profile customers, companies, brands, and fellow professionals. They are now looking for an experienced Site Supervisor to oversee these exciting projects.

Job Brief

As Site Supervisor you will need the ability to see the project through from start to completion so both soft and hard landscaping experience will be required. The clients expect the best, so all finishes must be achieved to the highest standards. The role will be split approximately 70% production and 30% management, so candidates must be comfortable to be on the tools and be able to lead by example, ensuring the site team is working hard to complete projects on time, in budget and in line with health and safety procedures. As a Site Supervisor you would be responsible for the day-to-day operations on site and form a link between the Construction Managers and the on-site teams. Site Supervisors are encouraged to assist the Construction Managers in the compilation and modification of the project programmes, resourcing, procurement plan, monthly variations, and the change order process.

You would also be responsible for the day-to-day administrative activities such as:

  • Collating site paperwork (delivery notes etc)
  • Checking deliveries against orders
  • Completing daily site diaries
  • Attending daily site briefings
  • Undertaking H&S checks
  • Ensuring that project works are clean, protected and that there is no damage to site works by others
Key Skills 

Candidates must have experience in a client facing role, as well as proven ability to lead teams and be responsible for forward planning.

  • Candidates should be experienced and skilled landscapers, with CSCS (preferably SMSTS) qualifications and plant tickets.
  • At least 5 years’ experience in a supervisory role
  • Demonstrate some skills in interpreting plans, drawings and setting out sites.
  • Good communication skills are essential to be able to liaise with the Design Team and Clients in a professional and fluent manner, both on technical and non-project-related topics.
  • Candidates will have a keen eye for detail and a very positive work ethic and ability to motivate their teams to excel
