A superb opportunity has arisen for a part-time Gardener to supplement a small team on a charming 4 acre private garden near Pewsey, Wiltshire. Sole Gardener - Live In - EC3993

A superb new vacancy has arisen for a live in Sole Gardener to undertake the management of a delightful large private garden on a 900 acre estate North Aberdeenshire. The garden consists of a burn planted with wetland plants and azaleas and rhododendrons with natural woodland ponds nearby. Beyond is a walled garden is approximately 0.8 acres and mainly under grass but still used for growing produce and contains planted borders with an array of perennials, shrubs, roses, fruit trees and a glass house with peach nectarine and figs. Another unique feature of the garden is an Indian garden patterned on ancient Persian pleasure parks with small farm outbuildings forming a backdrop to the garden.

Applicants for the role will need to have good plant knowledge, ideally a horticultural qualification and experience of pruning fruit trees, shrub roses, taking cuttings/propagation and a wide range of other garden tasks requiring good plant knowledge and horticultural skills. Chainsaw certificates are not essential but PA1/PA6 will be required. Also essential for the role are ability to work mainly unsupervised and effectively manage time and keep on top of weeding and vegetable production in the summer months.

The owner notes that you will be working with a small but friendly team on the estate and therefore must be willing to work alongside the Gamekeeper/Handyman to assist with estate duties such as clearing fallen branches after a storm and making bonfires when required.

Weekend duties will be required as the appointed gardener will be responsible for running the glasshouse and care of all the plants.

The appointed gardener has a holiday allowance of 25 days + 3 days bank holiday.

ACCOMMODATION: 3 bedroom cottage with oil fired heating, back boiler, and own garden and within a short walking distance of the main house. Pets and children are welcome.

SALARY: Circa £21,000 depending on experience

Part Time Plants Person - EC3982

A part-time (3 days a week) role has developed for a plants person to work on a privately owned small family estate with 3 formal gardens, wildlife pond garden, small woodland and established borders and parkland style area.

The grounds cover an area of approximately 5 acres, and are a mix of mature and newly planted trees, shrubs and herbaceous plants, augmented by bulbs and annual flowers. Each of the 3 formal gardens have their own identity and the successful applicant will be required to develop these areas further by suggesting and implementing planting schemes. The owners are keen to have a garden that is a pleasure to view and walk and sit in.

Plant selection, propagation, and seed growing skills are essential, with knowledge of plant diseases and administration of treatments also required. The use of organic, companion planting and biological treatments is preferred to chemical administration in the first instance.

There is an established band of people taking care of the kitchen garden, lawns, hedges, and pond maintenance allowing this role to be primarily focussed on all aspects of planting, and plant care.

The role is for a self-employed person, 3 days a week.

Qualifications: RHS level 2 are desirable but not essential.

Our client is looking for a live in Skilled Gardener and possibly a Housekeeper to help run an 8 acre private estate in the heart of the Cotswolds from April 2018. The 3 acres of formal gardens are laid out to lawns, perennial flower and shrub beds, box/yew hedging, terracing and topiary. The wider grounds consist of woodland, wild flower meadows and parkland.

Applicants will need proven hands on experience in large private gardens and ideally a horticultural qualification. Excellent plant knowledge and ability to assist with redevelopment/planning of the grounds are a must along with ability to work unsupervised.

Gardener (Live Out) - A667

An opportunity has arisen for an assistant gardener to work for an established and well respected company in Lower Hardres, Canterbury.  The company provides high quality garden maintenance and horticultural services to a range of loyal clients across a number of areas.

Due to continued success, the company now requires an additional gardener to join the existing team. You will ideally hold a recognised horticultural qualification or adequate experience, have good horticultural knowledge and plant identification skills, experience with a range of grounds maintenance machinery and equipment and will be used to working within a team and on you own initiative.  The role will involve acting as a gardening team member, primarily working on commercial properties.  This is an excellent opportunity to improve on your existing horticultural skills and experience.

You will be expected to undertake physical gardening duties such as hedge cutting and lawn maintenance as well as pruning, planting, bed/border maintenance.  You should be willing to carry out a range of other gardening tasks as they arise.  A spray ticket (PA1/PA6) is desired, though training can be offered if necessary.  This is a full-time permanent position and to ensure your job security, you will assist with various one-off projects on a full-time basis during the winter months.

The role will involve some visits to sites in London, so will entail early starts of 05:00 or 05:30, returning at approximately 15:00, two to three days per week, each week.  An hourly rate of £9.50 per hour is offered, with the opportunity to earn extra via overtime hours.

The successful applicant will be conscientious and well presented, flexible in your approach to work, be physically fit and have a positive ‘can-do’ attitude. A full UK driving licence is essential, as is your own car for travel to and from the rural yard.

Key Responsibilities:

*Weekly planning/strategy meeting with Farm Manager and Technical Manager.

*Daily meeting with Technical Team/Operations Team/Husbandry Team/Irrigation Team to ensure efficient coordination of all activities and set priorities.

*Plant care including pest management, irrigation, weed control, feeding, pruning, supporting and training.

*Climate management including ventilation, use of shade net, wind breaks, different poly types.

*Fertility and substrate management and selection.

*Take the lead in using fertigation systems to maximize crop health, growth and yields.

*Crop Walking with agronomists and technical team to minimize yield losses from P&D and maximize productivity potential.

Applicants must have relevant qualification in agronomy, horticulture, or food production and a minimum of three years’ commercial growing experience, preferably with soft fruit. Experience of protected cropping including irrigation, ventilation and frost protection is essential.

The ideal candidate will have both the knowledge and confidence to make independent decisions on a day to day basis and the ability to take responsibility for such decisions. Must speak English, be computer literate and be able to work both individually or in a team.
