Part Time Gardener

A rare opportunity has arisen for a Part Time Gardener on a beautiful 18-acre estate located on the edge of a village in North Wiltshire. Additionally, this position provides live in accommodation in the form of a 3-bedroom cottage nearby within the village.

Within the 18-acre estate, there are 3 small paddocks, and 10 acres which are currently in the process of being established into an arboretum walk, and 3 acres of diverse gardens and grounds surrounding the main house. Part-Time Gardener

A wonderful opportunity has arisen for an energetic and passionate gardener to join a team on a horticulturally diverse private estate, on a part-time (3 days/week) basis.  This vacancy is open to gardeners in the locality – skilled or junior gardeners looking to develop their skillset and experience in horticulture.

This beautiful, historic, Arts and Crafts garden is based near Cirencester. The private estate is open to the public at certain times of the year and (during a normal year) attracts approximately 8000 visitors per year.  The property is privately owned and has remained in the same family since its construction in the early 20th century, with the fourth generation now enjoying the estate and playing an active and hands-on role in its maintenance and development.  The estate plays host to a small number of events each year.

Set within a small rural village and surrounded by agricultural fields and paddocks, the estate comprises an impressive main building of Cotswold stone with formal gardens extending to 8-acres.   The gardens follow a traditional formal English manor house style with generous planting of yew and box topiary, extensive hedging, herbaceous borders, planters, a variety of shrubs, native and exotic tree species, manicured lawns, climbing wisteria and a walled garden.

Applicants will ideally have experience working on a private estate garden; however, less experienced applicants will be able to benefit from training from the head gardener where necessary.  Physical fitness and energy are essential as this is a hands-on role in a large and densely planted garden.  Experience with using garden machinery would be an advantage and some plant knowledge and experience with general garden maintenance would be beneficial.

Salary:                        £16,800 for 3 days / week
LOCATION:              Cirencester, Gloucestershire
JOB No:                      EC41008
