Skilled Gardener – Live In – EC5598

From English Country Gardeners

An excellent opportunity for a skilled gardener has arisen for a beautifully established private garden in North Wiltshire.

The property is positioned in a stunning 10-acre well-manicured garden, on a large in hand farming estate surrounded by expansive views of fields and native woodlands. Structurally re-designed in 2011, the formal garden consists of ornamental parterres, lawns with shrub beds and borders, azaleas and rhododendron borders, an ornamental lake and fountain.  There is also a walled garden with herbaceous borders, a large Alitex greenhouse and mature trees. Areas of hard landscaping have been established to make the management of the grounds as easy as possible.

The ideal candidate will have clear enthusiasm for maintaining and enhancing the garden and is someone who takes pride in their work. He / She will be responsible for the onward development of the borders in conjunction with the owners and maintain the garden to a high standard. He / She should be organised, able to plan and prioritise work load and is prepared to work outside in all weathers.  Time keeping is essential for this role to ensure the harmonious and smooth running of the estate.

The successful candidate will have excellent knowledge of trees, shrubs and herbaceous plants and be fully conversant with planting methods, soil properties, pest control, pruning and cultivation. Trees are a major part of the landscape; therefore, a chainsaw certificate is essential. However, as long as the applicant is willing to acquire the certification, training can be arranged by the employer. A spraying certificate (PA1 and PA6) is required and a full clean driving licence is essential for the role as some driving duties will be expected.

Additional duties will include basic maintenance such as painting and repairs therefore previous experience would be ideal. He / She should be trustworthy and when the owners are travelling, will collaborate with the house sitter for the security of the property. He / She must be dog friendly and would be willing to walk the owner’s two Labrador dogs.

Accommodation is offered as part of the package by way of a three-bedroom cottage at £5.00 per week rent. The occupant would be responsible for their own bills including council tax, in line with other employees working on the estate. Partners, children and pets are welcome.

The successful applicant will be entitled to 28 days holiday including bank holidays.
