The opportunity has arisen for a full time Groundsperson to join the staff at Harewood, working as part of a dedicated team within the surroundings of one of England’s finest country houses. The successful candidate will work closely with the Grounds & Gardens Supervisor to ensure the park and visitor amenities, such as footpaths, play equipment and recreational facilities are kept safe, clean and tidy. As well as general grounds maintenance such as grass cutting, strimming, litter picking, turf laying and leaf collecting etc, you will carry out repairs and provide general assistance to the Visitor Experience and Retail teams on a daily basis, as well as assist the Events and Education teams as required for setting up indoor and outdoor events, workshops, seasonal activities and installations. Some aspects of the role are physically demanding and it requires working in all weathers. Safety checks, risk assessments, tree inspections and record keeping all form an important part of the role.

Key Result Areas
  • Liaise closely with the Grounds & Gardens Supervisor to implement maintenance schedules and work programmes
  • Enthuse, instruct and supervise trainees and volunteers as assigned
  • Deliver high standards of work to help others to achieve collective team goals
  • Contribute to the process of staff training and development
  • Maintain high standards of health & safety; carry out risk assessments, COSHH assessments and manual handling assessments as required
  • Ensure that all machinery and equipment are used correctly and maintained in good condition; carry out safety checks and report defects to the supervisor
  • Closing up the park at the end of the day, according to a rota
  • Engage with visitors and deliver the best possible experience of Harewood, host guided tours as required
  • Be aware and constantly vigilant to the risks of fire, theft and flood and at all times observe the current instructions regarding fire and security issued by Harewood House Trust
  • Carry out park duties and assist the Visitor Experience and Retail teams on a daily basis and the Events and Education teams as requested
