An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Skilled Gardener to join a well-respected award-winning company in London. The company has been responsible for numerous very high-profile projects throughout the city for many years and are currently expanding their maintenance arm, leading to an increasing number of high-profile contracts. The company has recently secured a new, long-term, large maintenance contract in North West London. They are seeking an experienced and Skilled Gardener, working as part of the existing site team. In addition to a competitive salary, the client will generously pay for the travel expenses of the successful candidate.
The Site:
The 4.5-acre site was re-developed back in 2022 and is open to the public who have exposure to a wealth of horticultural elements to enjoy. Elements within the grounds include an orchard with fruit trees, wildflower meadows, large central pond, nature trails and water features. With over 300 new trees planted across the gardens, the planting palette has been selected to evoke a predominately native woodland character, with aspen, alders and willows by the waters edge and crab apple, field maple and mountain ash along the southern boundary. The entrances to the gardens are celebrated with a carefully curated shrub and herbaceous planting mix, with other areas home to specimen shrubs along the boundaries, pictorial flower meadows to encourage wildlife, natural grasses and pond planting such as purple willow and dogwood.
Main Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will be responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of the landscaped areas, ensuring the site remains a beautiful, safe and welcoming environment for visitors. Our client is seeking an individual who is hard-working, knowledgeable, willing to learn and have good time keeping. Candidates will have the ability to work as part of a team or individually under their own initiative.
Duties will include but are not limited to the following:
- Carry out regular maintenance tasks such as mowing, weeding, pruning, and trimming to ensure all landscaped areas are kept in optimal condition.
- Water, fertilise, and provide care to plants, shrubs, trees, and lawns, ensuring their health and vitality.
- Assist in planting seasonal flowers, shrubs, and trees in accordance with the site’s landscape design plan.
- Identify and manage pests and diseases, using appropriate methods to maintain plant health.
- Ensure the site is kept clean by removing litter and managing garden waste appropriately.
- Perform basic repairs and maintenance to hard landscaping features such as pathways, edging, and garden furniture.
- Monitor and maintain irrigation systems to ensure efficient water use and plant health.
- Adhere to all health and safety regulations, ensuring a safe working environment for yourself, team members and the public.
- Regularly report to the Head Gardener on the status of the site, including any issues or improvements needed.
Key Skills:
The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong work ethic, having the ability to work under their own initiative while taking pride in their work and completing tasks to a high standard throughout all tasks on the large site. An understanding of Health and Safety regulations is essential. A PA1/PA6 spraying certificate would be desirable, however not essential.
- Experience: A minimum of 2 years of experience in landscape/garden maintenance or a similar role.
- Knowledge: Strong knowledge of plants, horticultural practices, and landscape maintenance techniques.
- Physical Fitness: Ability to perform physical tasks in various weather conditions.
- Attention to Detail: Keen eye for detail to maintain high standards of garden aesthetics.
- Communication: Good communication skills to work effectively with the team and report to the supervisor.
- Certification: Relevant horticultural qualifications (e.g., RHS Level 2) are desirable but not essential.

Working Hours are 7:30 – 16:00 Monday to Friday.
