Role purpose:

The successful candidate will lead and motivate a vibrant team of retail assistants who demonstrate a passion of exceeding customer expectations and a commitment to exceptional standards. Th shop Manager will report into the Garden Centre Manager and will be responsible for the Garden Sundries / Wild Bird Care / Seasonal Product / Leisure / Giftware / Food Hall. They will be responsible for Two team leaders – covering circa 12 colleagues. (Subject to seasonal variation).

Must haves:

-Minimum of 1 years proven managerial experience in quality retail, preferably within garden centres

-Excellent communication skills, written and verbal

-Exceptional attention to detail and forward-thinking ethos

-Demonstrate a professional, enthusiastic and flexible approach

-Able to promote excellent team work to achieve exceptional customer experience

-Demonstrate strong people management skills

-Able to be responsive to challenges and demonstrate a ‘can do’ approach

-Knowledgeable in maintaining and monitoring Health and Safety on site

-Able to work with energy, pace and passion

-Efficient organisational and prioritisation skills

Key responsibilities:

-Responsible for the financial management of the shop, this includes assisting in the preparation and management of the budgets and analysing weekly sales performance

-Responsible for the ordering of products as per seasonal requirements, liaising with suppliers and buyers accordingly

-Responsible for merchandising to maximise sales opportunities, promoting stock in key areas as and when required

-Responsible for stock management within the shop. To include monitoring wastage and discounting to achieve maximum profit

-Promote the company values, leading by example, foster an honest and open environment where all staff feel able to contribute and communicate

-Identify and coordinate staff development in conjunction with the Garden Centre Manager.  Identifying potential skills and knowledge gaps within the centre.

-Lead and promote the highest standards of customer care and service at all times.

-Manage the promotion of the brand in store, by developing good local public relations and managing the active promotion of the Gardening Club.

-Create and maintain a safe working environment for staff and customers and visitors to site ensuring the compliance with the Health and Safety policy.

-Conduct regular appraisals of all staff, encourage performance feedback and use as a forum to discuss developmental needs.

-Run meetings with staff to update and inform key information i.e. promotions, targets, management messages etc. as necessary.

*Any other reasonable duties that are deemed necessary to fulfil the needs of the business.

Hours: average of 37.5 hours a week over a 2-week rota, alternate weekends
