Our client is a long-established specialist supplier of trees, shrubs and accessories to both trade and private clients across southern England. The company has a reputation for the supply of high-quality plants supported by helpful and expert advice. This is an opportunity to join a team of 15 staff in a small, successful, and efficient company, in a sales role on a busy retail nursery with a good working environment to grow alongside the company.
As a company they offer an onsite consultation service for their customers, which are carried out by their specialist horticultural experts. As the Plant Sales Advisor, the role will involve working in a small team of 4 people focusing primarily on the retail aspects of the business, helping, and advising visiting customers on their choice of plants, as well as giving the best horticultural advice over the phone and via email and then dealing with the resulting sales transaction. Part of the role will involve keeping a good level of housekeeping standards across the department. When not engaging with visiting customers, applicants will be expected to undertake general duties on the nursery such as weeding, watering, and pruning.
Our client is seeking a person with suitable experience in a similar role and with the ability to potentially take on a more senior role in the future. The following skills are essential:
- A good level of plant knowledge, preferably including trees, with the ability to give good practical guidance to customers on plant selection and care.
- Good communication and inter-personal skills, as this role is heavily customer focused
- Good Computer skills an advantage although training will be given
- Applicants must be physically fit and happy to do practical work on the nursery
- Enjoy working as part of a successful team
For this vacancy, the client is willing to consider applicants of a more junior level who are looking to further their career within horticulture.
Hours of work
Hours are likely to average around 40 hours per week and will include working on Saturdays. However, there is some flexibility as to which days and hours are worked during the week, but it is likely to require a 5-day week, including Saturdays
The company offers a minimum of 23 days holiday per year (pro rata) plus bank holidays. Candidates are asked not to take annual leave during peak seasons ranging from mid-September to mid-May, unless organised 1 year in advance with senior management.
The company operates a contributory pension scheme to which employees are auto enrolled in accordance with current government requirements.
