An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Plantarea Team Leader to join the Outdoor Plants team on a full-time basis, assisting the Buyer/Manager in the running of the outdoor plants department.

Horticultural knowledge is important and experience in a retail environment on a supervisory level is essential. Candidates will have a hands-on approach, but the role will also include the need for computer knowledge due to internal systems used for orders and stock. Good communication and team working skills are required as is the desire to deliver a high level of customer service. Please note that some heavy lifting will be involved as this is a physically demanding environment. A forklift licence is ideal but not essential.

We are looking for someone who has worked within the garden centre industry and has excellent plant knowledge, great customer service skills and a flair for merchandising with a keen eye for detail. The ideal candidate will be leading an experienced and knowledgeable team of 6-8 people and will look to uphold the high standards already set in a fast-paced environment. The role will involve ordering a wide range of plants on a weekly basis, raising purchase orders, booking in stock, managing stock levels and seasonal changes, as well as general stock and department maintenance.  The plant area is a heavily customer service based department, whether its answering questions, advising customers, taking customer orders or arranging customer deliveries so good communication skills and plant knowledge are essential.

The position involves working an average of 39 hours per week – Mondays to Fridays and alternate weekends (non-negotiable) with a fixed day off during the week. 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. weekdays and Saturdays and 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sundays. It will also include working late nights on Thursdays until 8:00 p.m. on a rota basis (once the garden centre is back open on Thursday evenings) and assisting at company events as and when required.
