Nursery Production Manager Required
Job Ref P131
My client is a large nursery in Norway with an international customer base including some very well-known and respected clients, such as David Austin, to which it supplies the entire range. The nursery produces Norwegian plants adapted to the Nordic climate, with production being carried out according to the most modern and rational principles. The nursery delivers high quality plants to garden centres, nurseries, and landscape gardeners. The plant range consists of conifers, deciduous shrubs, berries, hedges, ornamental, and roses. Supplied pot sizes range from 1.4 litres to 10 litres.
The nursery has several international partners, allowing the opportunity to be a complete supplier for all types of projects, regardless of size. Production at the nursery is split into two main categories: indoor/greenhouse and outdoor/field grown stock. The current General Manager has been fulfilling the role of Production Manager in addition to their primary role, which is unsustainable and has resulted in this opportunity for a talented candidate to play a key role alongside the GM as part of the management team.
The new production manager will be responsible for all the plants outside. The role will be managerial but with minimal office work, and the successful candidate will be able to balance their responsibilities whilst working within the team on a hands-on basis. Duties will include potting, pruning, general tidiness of the nursery, weed control, pest control, spraying, irrigation, ensuring efficiency in production operations, and planning production operations and procedures alongside the General Manager.
Applicants for this role should have large-scale nursery experience at managerial level, strong plant and technical nursery production knowledge, and must be able to work hands-on at all times whilst diplomatically managing a team of up to eight members of staff.
Accommodation and transport can be arranged for the successful candidate if required, with the former being by way of a shared house with other colleagues, or a separate house which will be available from April 2021. Accommodation will be at a subsidised rate and can be discussed as part of the interview process. This opportunity is open to applicants within or outside of the UK, with appropriate visa requirements being addressed on a case-by-case basis.
