Nursery Production Manager

a Nursery Production Manager on a full–time and permanent basis and to continue to grow and drive the nursery forward.
The Nursery Production Manager will ensure the nursery site and sales areas are professionally managed, well presented, tidy, and highly organised. The role includes
maintaining quality control, checking all home–grown and bought–in stock to ensure it meets the highest standards for health, specification, and dispatch. They will apply and
uphold best horticultural practices across all operations. The position also covers on–site Health & Safety, delivering inductions, toolbox talks, safety briefings, and supporting
RAMS. Strong leadership is essential, including the ability to work independently, support the team, and meet agreed targets. As part of a small, high–performing team, the
manager will also assist with wider duties as needed to support exceptional customer care and the smooth running of the business.
Key Requirements:
- Plant Husbandry: Ensure that the primary focus is on plants and plant health and continual improvement of the plant stock on site, Apply the highest standards of
professional plant care. - Plant Nutrition, Pest and disease control: ensure that the very best systems and techniques are applied in an environmental and where possible an organic approach.
- Pruning and training: Ensure that all stock is pruned and shaped in accordance with the desired outcome in a timely way to achieve apply the correct method to achieve
maximum growth. - Records and reporting: Ensure that all records and reports are maintained in a professional manner, recording plant movements, fertilizing and spraying records. –
Retain all records to fulfil any statutory state department reporting obligations. - Picking and packing: Selecting and preparing stock for dispatch – Packing in suitable way for dispatch. – (Main responsibility for this is with the soft landscape manager)
- Loading and unloading: Assist and supervise all loading and unloading of stock, prepare areas to receive stock to minimize stock movements / manual handling. (Main responsibility for this is with the soft landscape manager).
- Production Planning: Plan the annual stock production requirements in advance to optimize space and profitability. Minimize stock holding periods and ensure quick turnover of stock. This includes stock from other nurseries – to ensure we have sufficient stock available to fulfil orders and Sales targets. (Working with stock controller)
- Stock control: Stock taking and management, ensure that stock is available to fulfil orders and maintain minimum CORE stock quantities in the nursery. (Working with stock controller).
- Resource Scheduling: Manage material, machinery and Human resource requirements. To carry out all nursery activities and optimize efficiency.
- Contract Paperwork & Procedures: Maintain the implementation of the company’s site record.
- Team Management: Maintained strong communication with your team to ensure a positive and safe working environment, leading to high productivity.
- Plant sales: Assist customers with the selection of suitable stock for their projects, provide professional advice and assist in the sales process. (Main responsibility for this
is with the sales team) - Customer Care: To maintain strong relationships with existing customers, deal with any issues or complaints in a professional and timely manner. Uphold the company’s high standards.
- Financial: Responsibility for the maintenance of minimum gross margin on sales. This is achieved by delivering production and maintaining stock without waste.
- Innovation: Continually seek to improve the way we do work and deliver service.
Skills and Attributes:
- Academic/Technical Qualifications: You will preferably have a 3rd level qualification in Horticulture or Construction Management. But not essential.
- Knowledge and Experience: Previous Nursery production experience is essential. Excellent Knowledge of Plants, Soil, Planting & establishment techniques.
- Computer Skills: Excellent computer knowledge Will be a big advantage.
- Industry Experience: 5 years plus experience in Landscape construction or any construction related sector.
- Communication Skills: Honest and straight forward communication is essential with customers and team. A pleasant and positive manner with team members & Customers.
- Attitudes and Behaviour: Positive attitude – Ability to work well in teams, self–starter, pleasant/helpful/adaptable. Willing to work on and off too dependent on contract size. The ability to go the extra mile when required to finish a job well and on time.
SALARY: circa €60,000
