Senior Gardener required

An enthusiastic and hands-on Senior Gardener is required to manage the gardens of a beautiful private estate situated between East Grinstead and Tunbridge Wells.  This is an exciting position for someone looking to be an integral part of the ongoing design, development and maintenance of the gardens and grounds of the estate.

Surrounding this stunning property, the formal gardens include herbaceous borders, informal and formal plantings, with formal and informal lawns, a walled kitchen garden, glasshouse, fruit and specimen tree planting, arboreta, and parkland.

The gardens are currently mid-way through a period of enhancement and redesign, working with an external landscape designer, with the intent to bring the private gardens up to the very highest horticultural standard. The owner is now seeking a Senior Gardener who will work closely on managing and enhancing the extensive garden and associated grounds.

The ideal candidates will have excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills with a friendly disposition. They will be self-motivated as well as possessing the initiative to work with and supervise the other full-time gardener. They will possess the initiative to plan and complete projects in consultation with the estate owners, working as part of a team in a family environment.  The successful applicant will be responsible for planning and prioritising the garden work schedule and ensure that they are compliant with Health and safety at all times.

Applicants must have thorough knowledge of plant types and excellent plant identification skills. Experience with various planting schemes as well as detailed knowledge of tree, lawn and plant maintenance is essential. They will have a minimum level 2 horticultural qualification and be confident with their specialist knowledge such as pest and disease management and nutritional deficiencies. Demonstrable experience of managing a large private garden, with all that entails including coordinating external contractors where appropriate will be important. Duties will include maintenance of the grounds to the highest standards therefore a sound knowledge of garden machinery and their use and maintenance is important. PA1/PA6 spraying certificates are required and CS30/31 chainsaw certificates would be an advantage for basic tree work.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a Senior Gardener to manage the maintenance and development of a beautiful and diverse garden during this continued and exciting time of enhancement.
