Gardener / Groundsperson
From English Country Gardeners

Working For: English Country Gardeners
An exciting vacancy has emerged for an ambitious and driven individual to join a small gardening team on a prestigious, yet discrete private estate in West Oxfordshire. Working closely alongside the existing team, as well as wider estate staff, the successful candidate will assist in the maintenance of the gardens of the house, ancillary properties and outlying family accommodation to achieve the highest horticultural standards possible year round.
This is a substantial Estate comprising arable and livestock farming, woodlands, 150 acres of parkland and a number of residential properties. The private gardens surrounding the main house cover roughly 8-acres including a walled garden, rose garden, large amounts of topiary, herbaceous borders, formal lawns, a lake, and a greenhouse. A Kitchen Garden is currently in developmental stages with a view to produce a range fruit and vegetables on a small scale for the main house in the near future; therefore, those with experience and a keen interest in kitchen gardening are urged to apply. In addition to the main house, there are also 3 other large properties and some community gardens which are less formal but still maintained to a very high standard.
The main duties of the Gardener/Groundsperson will include border maintenance, grass cutting, pruning, hedge trimming, strimming, spraying, lake management, leaf clearance, care of garden furniture including ornaments and other gardening tasks associated with an estate garden of this stature. Applicants for this role will hold their PA1/PA6 spraying certificates, alongside a valid chainsaw certificate. A recognised horticultural qualification is advantageous, but not essential; however a keen interest and passion for horticulture is a must.
The Client is keen to promote a friendly and rewarding working environment, being willing to support the successful candidate in the development of their skills and experience in order to advance in the country house garden sector, including the opportunity for relevant professional and personal development training.
The estate owns a portfolio of properties on the estate, therefor accommodation is available on site if the successful candidate wishes to occupy a rental property.
Working hours are anticipated to comprise of a 39hr week, on a Monday to Friday basis. Some weekend flexibility will be required in order to prepare the estate for certain events, however this on an infrequent basis.
Please note that the successful candidate will be subject to a DBS check.
