Based on the south coast, on the edge of the New Forest, our client is a family run independently owned garden centre and nursery that has been serving the community for 100 years. The centre boasts a fantastic plantarea with many of the products coming directly from their own nursery. They also offer a comprehensive range of garden sundries, home and giftware, furniture and much more. Due to retirement the Directors are now seeking a Garden Centre Manager who will continue to support them in all daily operations.

Job Description:

As the Centre Manager, you will report to the Directors of the company and will be expected to deliver an exceptional service to customers. Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to;

Duties and responsibilities would include the following:

-To manage motivate and support a dedicated team of staff to ensure that sale opportunities and customers experiences are optimised.

-Staff recruitment, appraisals, and putting together staff rotas.

-Ensure daily work schedules are created and actioned, with all staff being aware of company targets and important information.

-Efficient and effective communications within the business

-Constantly find ways of improving the garden centre and motivating your staff to achieve agreed company objectives.

-Achievement of sales and profit targets with the aim to increase revenue.

-Managing and taking control of stock levels.

-Understanding seasonal peaks and troughs and making strategic changes in line with company polices to improve sales and customer services

-Implementing seasonal promotions and events, actively building contacts with key people.

-To create and achieve a sharp, neat, professional shop floor image of the highest standards using excellent visual merchandising skills.

-Ensuring that the department adheres to all Health & Safety legislation.

-Provide input into the overall buying strategy,

-To keep abreast of the latest trends and styles in garden centre retail, as well as monitoring all competitor activity.

-Responsible for managing the EPOS system and other daily administrative tasks

-To provide input into Marketing strategies liaising with the media

Key Skills:

As the Garden Centre Manager, you’ll need have the following experience.

-Management experience within a garden centre or a fast-paced retail environment 

-Experience of reporting sales/budgets to the senior managers/owners
