Our client is an independent garden centre offering a fantastic variety and diverse range of excellent quality plants and Horticultural products. The centre manager together with the team, strive to cater for every gardening requirement and pride themselves on their customer service and ability to make a visit to the centre a pleasurable experience. They are currently seeking an Assistant Shop Manager to join the team, delivering excellent standards of Retailing.

Job Brief

Our client is looking for an exceptional candidate with previous experience in a similar environment and role. The ideal candidate will be proactive, with a keen eye for detail in order to maintain stock and visual merchandising standards and ensure strong promotional plans for key seasonal events. As well as delivering excellent customer service to all customers, giving the best advice.

Key Responsibilities

-Working with the Shop Manager to ensure the smooth running of the department.

-Working proactively, enthusiastically and with drive to succeed.

-Keeping track of all KPI’s and targets.

-Key Holder Duties– Covering for the Shop Area Manager on their weekday and alternate weekend off work and providing cover for the Centre Manager when on business days off site, days off or holiday/sickness.

-Checking and receiving deliveries of product following the required procedure.

-Pricing, displaying, and merchandising of product to the required standards and implementing promotional changeovers.

-Develop, motivate, and lead the team as well as monitoring their performance and ongoing training.

-Ensuring a high level of customer service is maintained.

Candidate Skills 

The appointed person will have a sound knowledge of garden centre retailing and enjoy working as part of a team with good communication skills, will be self-motivated to achieve high standards and able to work on their own initiative with attention to detail in all aspects of the job.

As the Shop Area Assistant Manager, you’ll need to have the following experience: A proven track record in garden centre retailing: you will know this working environment well in terms of the products, as well as:

-Several years’ experience working in a Garden Centre

-You have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written

-A meticulous eye for detail and brilliant written and verbal communication skills

-A strong work ethic, a humble attitude, and an entrepreneurial spirit

The working hours are 40 per week. Weekend work will be required on a rota basis.
