Bristol Aquarium seeks Horticultural Technician/Gardener working 20 hours per week

Bristol Aquarium has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Horticulturist to join its team.

In the heart of Bristol located on the Harbourside, our Aquarium is the only UK Aquarium that boasts a Botanical House home to an array   of exotic plant species including orchids of then world and monstrous cheese plants.

About the Role

Our business depends on our guests enjoying their experience and hopefully leaving our attraction educated and inspired to care more about the environment.

You will be responsible for the upkeep and development of the Botanical House from maintaining automated watering systems, pest management, developing educational displays to supplying information and key facts for Plant IDs as well as keeping records of all plants and planting.

About You

You will be able to demonstrate that you have excellent knowledge of plant growth and maintenance with an all round knowledge of horticultural skills.  Ideally you will have previous experience caring for a range of temperate, tender and tropical plants, preferably in a botanic garden or similar.  You’ll also need to have a horticultural qualification at NVQ Level 2 or above or the equivalent experience. A spray certificate PA1 & PA6w is also desirable.

A good working knowledge of pest management is key as well as an understanding of automated watering systems. The role requires creating educational and interesting displays within the botanic houses so an ability to develop partnerships with outside organisations would be helpful.

You should have an eye for aesthetic beauty and have a love of nature.  You will need to be highly motivated and enthusiastic able to work under your own initiative as well as a real team player.  You must possess good communication skills to work with other departments and be able to interact with our guests.
