Gardener - Live Out - EC5412

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a sole gardener to work on a beautiful private garden in South Derbyshire.

With stunning views of Melbourne Pool, the 1.5-acre diverse and mature garden drops steeply by paths and steps to lawns with herbaceous borders and banks of shrubs. Numerous paths lead to different areas providing a variety of planting opportunities - a bog garden, glade, shrubbery, herbaceous and grass borders, a herb and vegetable garden, rose tunnel, orchard and small woodland. The role will include planting and care of plants, vegetable growing, developing borders, pruning of trees and shrubs and all aspects of garden, path and fountain maintenance. The garden is open to the public through the NGS at least twice a year, for a large annual festival and through arranged group visits.

The owners are deeply involved with the garden and and they are looking for someone with a real passion for horticulture to work closely with them and manage the garden to a high horticultural standard.  The ideal candidate will have excellent plant knowledge and experience of plant care, seed sowing, propagation, vegetable growing etc. He / She will be a self-starter and have excellent time management skills. The successful applicant will be organised in their approach, able to keep a log, plan the year and be able to demonstrate that plan.

As the property is based on steep slopes, applicants need to be physically fit and active. Other requirements for the role are good communications skills and a positive ‘can do’ attitude. He / She should be prepared to work outside in all weathers, be flexible and have good time keeping skills. An ability to operate a range of garden machinery will be necessary for the role, so that chainsaw and spray certificates are required.  However if these certificates are currently not held, as long as there is the willingness to acquire, the client would support the training.

This is an excellent opportunity for a gardener looking to further develop their skills and knowledge and work closely with friendly and knowledgeable owners.
