This plant nursery now has the opportunity for an experienced nursery manager to join the team and create a real difference in a well-established and growing business.

The assistant manager will be responsible for the leading and motivating of a small but driven team of plants people, offering plant advice to, and assisting customers with any purchasing needs in person and via telephone/email. Managing the goods in from suppliers and out to the customer base, label printing for new stock and ensuring the stock levels are accurately maintained. Managing the EPOS system (experience is beneficial but training will be provided).

  • Requirements:

The successful candidate will have an extensive horticultural knowledge and proven managerial experience ideally within a horticultural context such a plant nursery. Be able to demonstrate professionalism with an enthusiastic and flexible approach, attention to detail and forward thinking. The ability to motivate the team to achieve a consistently high standard of work and customer service. Strong people management, understanding the importance of monitoring and maintaining Health & Safety. Understanding efficient planning, organisation and prioritisation, excellent communication skills both written and verbal.

The Council also has a growing portfolio of commercial clients. We are currently seeking a skilled and experienced supervisor to join the team that oversees commercial contracts as well as grounds maintenance of public areas in Reading.

The job involves managing the day-to-day operations of grounds maintenance staff, securing high quality work, ensuring the health and safety of the team and the public, dealing with customer enquiries, and liaising with suppliers and contractors. The role involves rostered one-in-four weekend working and reactive 24 hour emergency call out.

You will hold an NVQ Level 3 Amenity Horticulture or equivalent qualification. You will be able to demonstrate extensive experience of estate maintenance and a sound knowledge of horticulture. Your experience in managing staff and in dealing with the public will be valuable. Knowledge of health and safety relating to the post is essential.

You will be responsible for the administration associated with the role, and will need to be computer literate.

You should be self-motivated, courteous with customers, a good team worker and willing to work outside in all weather conditions. You should hold a current driving licence.
