Sole Gardener
An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced, enthusiastic, and creative sole gardener with great plant knowledge to maintain, improve and further enhance a historic country house garden. The garden is approximately 3 acres and comprises of formal lawns, herbaceous an shrub borders, mature woodland and an additional 8 acres of open paddock land. The garden contains extensive hedges of Yew, Beech, Holly and Box.
The Sole Gardener will have a hands-on role in the daily care and continuous development of the garden. They will be confident planning and executing the seasonal maintenance of the gardens. The ideal candidate will have at least 3 years’ experience working within a similar role on a private estate. The gardener will need to be self-motivated, organised, able to plan and prioritise their workload. The individual will work closely with the owners and should be able to work in a small team as well as alone, managing external contractors when required from time to time.
This is an excellent opportunity and would suit someone with a vision for maintaining and enhancing the garden as required. There is a wide range of garden machinery available for use and the gardener will have the ability to operate and carry out basic maintenance of the garden machinery. Applicants must have PA1 & PA6 qualifications, Excellent plant knowledge coupled together with technical skills, experience of thinning/renovating mature shrubs and pest and disease knowledge. A full clean driving licence is also required due to the rural location.
SALARY: Up to £38,000 DOE
